He turned his head from regarding the big cat to look at her with a black look. "I'm not runnin'." He answered. "I needed to think. How did you find me?"

"Aiyla." She answered. "Why aren't you home?"

"I just told you."

"You're runnin' again."

"Fuck you, Rue." Lex answered turning back to the cat. The animal paced restless back and forth, Lex knew how it felt, trapped, restless.

Rue snorted softly, crossing the short distance to lean up against other side opposite of Lex. "I wont even dignify that." She replied.

"Do I care?" Lex's tone was hollow and lifeless.

"Yes. You wouldn't be here other wise." Rue answered softly, watching the other red head.

"What do you want, Rue?" Lex finally asked, tearing his gaze away from the tiger.

"To talk." Rue answered, sitting down on the bench across from him.

"I'm not much for talking right now." Lex answered, staring back at her.

"Fine, I'll do the talking, you listen." Rue replied with a shrug. She dug out a pack of cigarettes from her jacket pocket, lit one and offered him the pack and lighter. He took it, lighting one of his own.

"I heard about the other day." She said, after taking a long drag.

"Yeah, so has everyone else." Lex answered, watching the ember on the fag rather then her.

"And you're hidin' from everyone. They're worried about you." Rue answered.

"You weren't there." Lex answered flatly, "So don't start."

"No, but we've been down that road before, haven't we?" Rue replied calmly. She was well aware he was trying to lock her out.

"Say what you have to say, Rue."

"Fair enough." She said with another drag. "You don't have to hide, you don't have to run. No one blames you, but yourself."

Lex shifted uncomfortably, and drew a long drag off his cigarette, exhaling slowly. "I have every reason to blame myself. Everything Faal said was true."

Rue shook her head. "Maybe, but it doesn't mean it's your fault. You got the shitty end of the deal as far as life before now goes, but you can't keep blaming yourself, because if you do, you're only going to end up in worse trouble."

"You're a hypocrite." Lex sneered.

"Yeah, I am, maybe I'd rather say it to you, then follow my own voice. I'm nearly a hundred years old, Lexine, I've lived a long life, I've done a LOT of things, both good and bad. You're only twenty two. You've got your whole life ahead of you. But you keep hidin' and you're not going to get anywhere. You've got a whole lot of people who give a damn about you, who care a great deal about what happens. Not to mention some one who loves you beyond all measure."

"I was wondering when you were going to get around to mentioning him..." Lex replied softly.

"You're lucky, Lexine, did you know that?"

Lex looked away from her, saying nothing. "Listen to me, Lexine," Rue hissed, leaning forward suddenly. "Do NOT push Faal away. You need him, I know it, he knows it and you know it. Rowen screwed you over, we both know this, fuck Rowen, he's out your life like that. You've got a good thing going. It's rare in this world for love to be so real."

Lex shook his head. "He doesn't need me, he doesn't need a slave."

Rue had to exercise her self restraint, not to reach over and smack the shit out of Lex. "He may not need you, but he wants you.And some where in that little submissive mind of yours, you want the same."

"What would you know of it?" Lex snapped back.

"Alot. Lex, I watched you, for two years, desperate for what you have now. I watched you endure Rowen's mind games to the point of breaking, because you were in love. My heart was broken just as much as yours, watching you go through it. No more, damn it! If you don't trust him, if you don't open up to Faal, you're going to lose a lot."

"What are you expecting out of me right now, Ruewina, for me to break down and cry?" Lex asked in an exasperated tone.
"No. You've only cried in front of me once, I know better. I know I never earned your full trust, and I know I fucked up after Hell. I don't expect you to forgive me. I know I have no right to ask this of you, but PLEASE, for your own sake, think about what I've said, and trust him." She chunked her cigarette across the open area and got to her feet. "Before it's to late, Lex."

With that she shoved her hands in her pockets and walked off, leaving him sitting alone on the bench, finishing his cigarette. He stared back at the tiger, replaying everything she'd said.
