Saffron stretched out on the wide tomb stone, letting his
hair fall down one side as his legs hung over the other end. He left one hand
in the grass, the other laying by his cheek, and found himself thinking about
how very tragic he must look. He certainly felt it... He found himself wishing
a vampire would come along and take advantage of him. It would certainly be a
wonderful way out of his twisted circumstances. He shut his eyes, trying to
keep from thinking about that, it only made him feel more tragic. "Oh just
let me get bit..." He muttered to no one in particular.
There was a soft snort. "Careful with invitations like
that... wrong people might hear..." Matt said, eyeing the pose.
"Don't move." he said with a wicked smirk as he pulled out his phone and
snapped a photo.
Saffron opened his eyes, to look up at Matt with a curiously
amused expression. "Care to take a few more, they might make nice Christmas
cards." He replied, with a wicked sparkle in his eyes. "Besides...I
dress the part, isn't it only fair that I end up as vamp bait?" He asked,
with more of a smirk. The day had been the worst in his life, and yet just
being around Matt, made him feel better.
Matt snapped another shot before he put the phone away and
moved to sit back against a head stone facing Saffron. "Blood sucking
Daughter of the Seal... that'd be an interesting twist, wouldn't it?" he
asked with a smirk, his eyes darker then normal. His voice lost any semblance
of humor as he asked his next question. "Kid.. you're not seriously going
through with this shit, are you?"
Saffron sighed, quiet for a long moment, before turning his
head in Matt's direction. "Apparently, it doesn't look like I have much
choice. At least that’s how it looks now that Jean Yves has looked over the
contract...The contract was written in my mother's blood...and his
mother's..." He answered softly.
"But not yours!" Matt snapped then sighed heavily
and ran his hands back through his hair as he calmed himself down. "You
had nothing to do with it.. you never agreed to shit... I can't believe you're
going to go through it because someone else fucking signed it..." he said.
"Don't do it, Saff." he added softer.
"It was agreed to when I was born...Fae had been doing
this...forever; arranging marriages." Saffron said softly, turning his
head back straight, and closing his eyes. "It's not like I have much
choice, and trust me, Its not like I WANT to do this...but it's a binding
contract, and whoever backs out, dies..."
Matt just sat there watching him for a long moment before he
finally pushed himself off of the stone and moved to stand above him, looking
down. He reached out to brush a lock of black hair off of Saffron's forehead
then sighed and sat down on the ground with his back against the stone; the top
of his head brushing against Saffron's hip. "I could just kill him for
you..." he said simply.
Saffron smiled wearily, his eyes still closed. "I
suppose you could, but then at least two fae courts would seriously want you
dead." He replied, before opening his eyes enough to look at his watch. He
was counting down the hours until dawn.
Matt snorted at that. "So? Why should they be any
different from anyone else?" he said lightly. He sat there for a moment
just enjoying the feel of Saffron's leg touching the back of his head then
groaned softly as he realized that this might very well be the end of their
friendship. "So... you're just going to marry a perfect stranger and let
him drag you off to Ter Nah Nog...?" Matt said softly, shifting where he
sat so he was leaning on his side facing where he knew Saffron's head lay
staring up at the sky.
"Well technically, I don't have to live with him. Since
he doesn't really reside in Ter Nah Nog, or any of the courts... I can remain
in my apartment; though he has to pay for it." Saffron replied softly.
"So there are some perks... don't
have to live with the bastard, just... have to be married to him..."
Matt reached up and let his fingers trail over Saffron's arm
where it lay closest to him. " I don’t want you to marry him, Saff. I
can't stand the thought if him touching you..." he said softly. "But
... fuck... I don't want you to die over it either...."
Saffron was quiet a long moment before turning his head,
looking at Matt. "I really don't have much choice. I can't put the Seal at
risk by not marrying him..." He said softly. "And as my lawyer
pointed out, it would afford me the protection of two courts..."
Matt stretched his hand out to stroke his fingers over
Saffron’s cheek. "I still can't stand it..." he said softly.
Saffron closed his eyes at Matt's touch and turned his face
away. "No body can stand it. But really, it's my problem isn't it?"
He replied softly. He moved finally, slipping off the stone to sit on the
ground next to Matt. "Besides, the only way out would be suicide... in
more ways then one. So...at dawn, I'll marry him..." Saffron added even
softer, not looking at Matt.
Matt cursed himself silently as he slipped his arm around Saffron,
pulling him closer, his other hand caressing his cheek. "I'm sorry."
he said softly, barely more than a whisper before brushed his thumb over
Saffron's lips. "I should've bit the fucking bullet ages ago.. and made
you mine..."
Saffron closed his eyes for a moment, enjoying the intimate
touch and some how knowing it'd never been this good with his intended groom.
"You're not into guys, remember...?" he said softly, almost in a
whisper, opening his eyes to look up at him.
"I'm into you... I've always been into you... just too
fucking chicken shit to do anything about it..." Matt said softly,
brushing his thumb over Saffron's lips again. "You should be mine..."
Saffron sighed, turning his head away a moment and looking
out over the cemetery. "This will change everything between us..." He
said softly, before looking back at him. If he had only a few hours of freedom
left, he might as well make the most of it. He moved, getting closer to Matt.
The corner of Matt's mouth twitched at that. "What
will...? My admitting that I want you...? Or you marrying some asshole?"
he asked, then slipped his fingers back through Saffron's hair. "I can
never meet him you know... I lay eyes on the bastard and I'll kill him. I don’t
give a fuck if he's the nicest guy in the fucking world... he has you. I want
you..." he growled softly.
Saffron sighed, closing his eyes for a moment again,
"You have terrible timing, Matt..." He said softly, sadly, before
moving enough to lean up and kiss him softly. "I would have been
yours...freely..." He added with a sad smile before starting to get up.
The tingling of the soft kiss still burning his lips, Matt
caught hold of him, pulling him back down and kissed him hungrily. "I
won't let this happen..." he growled softly between kisses, his hand
tangling in Saffron's hair. "I'll find a way to get you out of this,
Saff..."
Saffron ended up half in Matt's lap and whimpered softly
behind the kiss, sliding his arms around his neck. "There's only a few
hours till dawn..." he said softly, "They'll come to collect me
soon..."
Matt groaned softly at that, kissing him that much deeper. He
let his other hand rub over Saffron’s hip then slip up under the shirt to
stroke his bare ribs. "Mine." he growled softly. "You'll always
be mine..." he added, catching hold of Saffron's bottom lip and sucking on
it playfully for a moment. "I'll find a way, baby... I swear..."
"It doesn't matter who I'm married off to, Matt... my
heart will always be yours..." Saffron replied softly behind the kiss. He
felt the tears threatening, but at the same time, wanted this moment more then
anything. He moved enough to straddle Matt's legs, his arms still wrapped
around his neck. He had to wonder how many other brides did this the night
before their wedding...
"Matters to me..." Matt said softly, breaking the
kiss to look in the dark green eyes. "I won't share you any longer than I
have to... I won't live knowing some on else is touching you..." he added,
his hands slipping around to cup Saffron's backside and pull him closer.
"As of tonight, you're mine... and I won’t fucking rest until all of you
is mine forever..."
Saffron sighed, half content, half sad. He closed his eyes
for a moment, a few tears rolling down his cheeks. "You have no idea how
long I wanted to hear you say that..." He replied softly, letting his
hands slid slowly down Matt's chest before slipping under the t-shirt to caress
upward.
"You have no idea how fucking angry I am with myself
for waiting so fucking long.." Matt said softly in return before undoing
the shoulder harness and pulling it off, his t-shirt quickly following.
"Then don't think about that right now..." Saffron
replied softly, leaning forward to kiss and nuzzle Matt's neck, letting his
fingers caress over his chest. He shoved everything else out of his mind, not
wanting to think of anything else but this moment.
Matt moaned softly at the feel of Saffron’s lips against his
skin; the cool chill of the death connection only making the feel that much
more intense. His hands slipped as high under Saffron’s shirt as they could
before he growled softly. "Get this off.. before I rip it off..."
Saffron pulled back enough to unbutton the silk shirt he was
wearing, letting it slid off his shoulders and dropped it next to Matt's on the
ground. He was glad his boots were sitting next to the grave stone. "You
could have ripped it, it's not one of my favorites..." He replied softly
with a faint smirk, looking up at him, his eyes much lighter then they usually
were.
Matt chuckled darkly as he let his hands stroke over the
bare skin of Saffron's back. "Yeah... and imagine the reactions to finding
you with a ripped shirt on the morning of your wedding?" he said then the
humor went out of his eyes again, replaced by desire. "No more talking...
we're wasting time... And I've got a fuck load of plans to squeeze into the next
couple hours.." he said, the corner of his mouth quirking up again as his
eyes sparkled. "With any luck.. you won’t be able to walk down that
aisle..."
Saffron couldn't help but laugh softly, "And how do I
explain that...?" He replied softly, before leaning forward again and
kissing Matt. He found himself wishing there was a way out of all of it, just
so he could be with Matt.
Matt laughed softly again as he shifted forward, spilling Saffron
onto the cool grass of the grave beneath them. He smirked down at him as he
bent to kiss his way over Saffron’s chest. "Ask for a wheel chair...
impending marriage has made you weak with dread... " he said between
kisses, his hands working at undoing Saffron's pants.
Saffron smiled softly, but didn't reply, a soft moan escaping
him, at the feel of Matt's lips on his skin. He let his hands slid up Matt's
back, letting his nails drag lightly over the skin. He lifted his hips,
allowing Matt to pull off the satin pants.
Matt moaned at the feel of Saffron's fingers nails, loving the
sensation and suddenly abandoning the playful mood. With a soft growl of want,
he tossed Saffron's pants as side moving back up to catch his mouth hungrily,
even as he undid his jeans, shoving them down along with his underwear. When
all that remained between them was the black lacy boy shorts Saffron wore, Matt
laughed darkly and gave in to temptation as he ripped them free. "I'm
keeping these..." he growled through the kiss.
~~
Saffron watched the seamstress working on the last details
of the gown, through the mirrors reflection, though he hardly paid attention to
what she was doing. What he saw of himself, in a gown fit for a princess,
seemed both right and wrong. He hardly felt uncomfortable, knowing that at some
point in the near future he would be back to being a girl. What felt so wrong,
was that he was wearing the gown for someone other then who he wanted to wear
it for. He sighed, closing his eyes. But all that came to him when he did was
the memories from the night before, which brought both a soft smile and a dark
blush. The fates really had decided to be cruel...
The wedding was taking place in the White
Court, which was neutral. Those attending were
already filling the throne room. Rin had his arms crossed, watching the people
gather, several fae being present. He was aware of the agitation beside him,
but didn't look at Matt. He'd already cast a glamour over most of Matt's
appearance, and had another spell to hold him in place, ready.
Matt's eyes were glued on the dais. He wasn't sure who he
wanted to see more... Saffron.. or the man who had stolen him away form him. He
growled irritably at himself for that thought, knowing it was his own fault
they'd had so little time together. If he hadn't been such a stuck up prude
about Saffron being a guy for as long as he had, who knows where they'd be
right now.. maybe this wouldn't have happened. "fuck.." Matt growled.
"Should've dragged his ass off to Vegas and married him myself... this is
fucking bullshit...I'm going to find a way out of this..." he grumbled,
his eyes growing darker.
The seamstress finished the last details and the maid placed
the veil and tiara just about the time a knock came to the door. Saffron
sighed, turning from the mirror, as the maid opened the door, to admit his
Uncle Larsa, who'd agreed to walk him down the aisle. He smiled, though it was
sad. "You look beautiful, Saffron." Larsa said softly. Saffron
accepted the bouquet of roses from a maid and smiled just as sadly to Larsa.
"Thank you..." He said softly, taking Larsa's arm. "Your
siblings are here...as are a few of your friends..." Larsa said as they
left the room. Saffron was quiet for a long moment, his eyes on the black rose
in the center of the bouquet. "Is Matt?" He asked softly. "I didn't
see him..." Larsa answered.
"It's a little to late for Should Haves, Mattias."
Rin answered, scanning around the room. The groom, Landan Nhilafien entered
from a side room, heading for the dais, and Rin's eyes automatically darkened
as he watched him. Landan looked calm, collected, and satisfied as he stood
there, the White King taking his place in his throne for the moment. "The
little bastard..." Came a hiss from behind them and Rin snorted softly,
glancing back at Sands. "I have this insane urge, to fuck neutrality and
whip that smirk off his god damned fucking face." Sands added.
Matt snorted softly, his hands clenching and unclenching at
his sides as he glared murderous daggers at the groom. "Get in
line..." he said simply. "Should've killed the son of a bitch last
night..." he muttered to himself.
"And sparked a four court war?" Rin asked,
glancing at Matt, having cast the spell to keep him in place. "Not a wise
idea."
"If you're lucky, we can always hope Saffron gets tired
of his ass on the honeymoon and does the world a favor." Sands said.
Rin rolled his eyes, "A nice thought, but doubtful
it'll happen.. it's not something Saffron would do..."
Sands snorted, "But carrying a single black rose in the
bouquet is... wonder who that was for..." Sands said softly, turning his
attention to the doors of the throne room as the room fell silent and the doors
opened, and the first view of the bride was seen.
Saffron stalled just outside the doors as the opened,
staring wide eyed down the aisle toward the dais. He didn't know how he could
possibly do this...And he had the insane urge to beg his uncle to take him out
of the court. Larsa patted Saffron's hand on his arm comfortingly. "The worst
will be over soon." Larsa said softly, glancing down at Saffron.
"I don't love him..." Saffron replied in a
whisper.
Larsa reached up with his free hand and wiped the tear off
Saffron's cheek. "I know...you love another..." He said, before they
were urged to go forward
Matt heard the soft murmuring just as he felt the first cool
brush of Saffron's abilities connect with his own and he turned to find him.
His breath caught at the sight of him and his chest ached fiercely." Gods
baby...I am so sorry..." he whispered softly, his vision blurring for a
moment before he angrily rubbed at his eyes with one hand. He didn't even
notice how raw his palms had become form his finger nails digging into them
repeatedly. "I'm finding a way." he growled softly, the ache almost
unbearable as he watched Saffron.
Saffron let his gaze look over all those attending.
Unsurprised, he didn't see his father there, since Auron had refused to attend.
But he saw Lex and Lark, with their guardians. He saw Eire
and some of the others, and even Kay and Rue. But he didn't see Matt... Larsa
walked him up the aisle, and placed his hand in Landan's. There was a pause,
before the White King began the ceremony. Saffron kept his eyes more on the
roses in his other hand then on the groom.
Rin made sure the spell to keep Matt in place was still
holding. The White King gave Landan his vows, to which he answered I do, and
yet the White King seemed to pause again, looking at Saffron a long moment,
before he began giving Saffron his vows. Rin had been surprised when Landan had
demanded the wedding take place as soon as possible after the contract had been
delivered to Saffron and his lawyers, instead of simply waiting for the change
like most would have done. He shook his head as Saffron answered I Do and
Landan slipped the ring on to his finger.
Matt gave a low moan of despair as he watched, his hands
clenched tightly into fists at his side. He envisioned breaking free of Rin's
hold and charging the dais to rip that ring off Saffron's finger and shove it
down the grooms throat... despite the fact that he knew the out come would result
in the fae showing him how they dealt with necromancers and wedding crashers.
"Saff.." he moaned softly.
The White King gave his blessing, his expression emotionless
and hardly cheerful, and informed Landan he could kiss his bride. Landan lifted
the veil and caught Saffron gently, drawing him forward. His lips meerly
brushed Saffron's briefly, before Saffron turned his head, just enough, in
almost a coy way, but it was enough to avoid being really kissed by Landan. And
it was enough, that his gaze landed on Matt, catching his eye. Saffron's own
dark green were wide and pain stricken.
Matt swallowed past the lump that burned in his throat as he
watched, the pain in Saffron's gaze only fueling his rage towards the man
beside him. "Get me out of here before I kill the bastard and ruin
Saffron’s life..." Matt hissed softly to his father. ".. or throw
up..." he added in a soft undertone, his gaze shifting from Saffron's to
shot Landan one last burning glare.
Landan began escorting Saffron from the dais, back down the
aisle, but realized Saffron's gaze was on some one else and he followed
Saffron's line of sight before he noticed Matt... For a brief moment, he looked
unsure and even a bit afraid, before his expression was replaced with a smug
one. And he drew Saffron closer, moving enough to break Saffron's line of sight
from Matt.
Rin bit back the sneer, before taking Matt's arm, as he
broke the spell and drew him back out of the way of everyone else, before
opening a rift out of the White Court.
~~
Saffron locked his apartment door, before taking his
suitcase to the bed room. Three days had been long enough in Landan's company.
And it'd be at least a week or so before he was back in Landan's company.
Taking his hair out of the braid, Saffron moved around the apartment a moment,
before making up his mind. Grabbing the phone, he dialed Matt's cell phone and
leaned against the wall, next to the table the phone was on. His free hand
nervously brushed at the wrinkles in the long loose skirt he was wearing.
Landan had pretty much tore up his wardrobe and replaced it with more
'suitable' clothes.
Matt listened to the dirge his cell phone was playing... a
joke Saffron had pulled on him that he'd never bothered to change... and now
didn't want to. After the third rendition of the tune he growled and snapped
the phone up. "Yeah." he said irritably.
Saffron smirked faintly, his heart beating harder at just
hearing his voice, even if he did sound irritated. "Hello Matt. I really
hope I didn't call at a bad time..." He said softly.
Matt sat up straight at the sound of Saffron's voice.
"Saff! Gods.. no.. baby.. no... Never." he said, his voice softening
immediately. "How are you? Are you alright?" he asked as he got to
his feet to pace lightly.
Saffron snorted softly. "Well I could certainly be
better. Three days in Paris in his
company is quite enough for me..." He said softly. "He's in Moscow
for a week...on business. I'm in Boston...
I was...wondering... if you'd like to come see me..." He added.
Matt froze, his
breath catching as his heart skipped a beat. "Yeah.. I mean.. I'm at
home.. it'll take me a few hours, but... fuck yeah, angel.. I'm on my
way.." he said softly.
Saffron smiled softly. "I'm at my apartment... I'll be
waiting." He answered. "I just... really want to see you... I've
missed you..." He added, leaning against the wall. Matt had been to
Saffron's apartment once or twice before; he was the only one.
"I've missed you too, angel.." Matt said as he
made a tour of the place, turning everything off. "I haven't stopped
thinking about you..." he added. "I love you, Saff. I won't let him
keep you... I'm looking for a way..."
Saffron sighed, moving from beside the table, around the
apartment, picking up things. "Well I certainly haven't stopped thinking
about you..." He answered softly. "He leaves me alone for the most
part... but..." Saffron trailed off a moment, straightening a picture on
the wall. "I'm afraid of him..." He said very softly after a moment.
Matt paused at Saffron's words, one hand on his jacket.
"Has he hurt you, babe?" he asked softly. "If he's done anything
to hurt you... he's dead. The Courts be damned."
"He hasn't hurt me, Matt... it's just… I don't know... I
think it's stupid to feel that way...but... I rather feel I'm back to being a
slave... locked up... just... the bars are different this time." Saffron
answered softly. "Maybe it's just being stuck dealing with all the high
society...being the center of attention, constantly..." Saffron added.
"He's rich, he's powerful and I've become something of a trophy
wife..."
Matt let out a breath he hadn't even known he was holding.
"Fuck.. baby... you scared me. You know, angel... there's no law that says
you have to be polite and nice. Be yourself. He'll probably stop dragging you
along if you started showing up in jeans and making sarcastic cracks at
everyone..." he said as he pulled on his jacket, pocketing his keys.
Saffron didn't answer to that. At the moment, he was
standing by his window, thinking about how Landan had already been changing who
he was. "Several of his associates are fae... and considering what I am...
it doesn't do for the Daughter of the Seal to be sarcastic and rude..."
Saffron answered softly.
"Fuck that. You're still you, Saff. Be yourself. If he
doesn’t fucking like who you are, then he shouldn't have fucking married
you." Matt growled. "Look baby... I'm on my way out the door now...
I'll be there as quick as I can, alright?"
Saffron snorted softly. "Of course... I'll be
waiting." Saffron replied softly. "You remember how to get to my
apartment building, I hope...?" He added.
"Of course I do." Matt said softly, then smirked
and blushed. "I just follow my heart... See ya soon, angel." he said
softly with a chuckle before hanging up and pocketing the phone. He quickly
locked the door and headed for the garage, deciding his bike would be the
fastest and least likely to get nailed in traffic.
~~
Evening was sitting in, by the time Saffron managed to pick
up most of the mess of his apartment and clean up, having trashed a lot of the
place four days before. Still, it wasn't as much of a mess as it could have
been. He was just putting away the few days worth of groceries he'd had
delivered, when he felt the faint pull of death, and left the kitchen, going to
the living room window and looking out.
Matt's heart was beating double time as he pulled off his
helmet and looked up towards Saffron's window. He caught the familiar
silhouette and smiled, quickly abandoned his bike, heading inside and taking
the stairs two at a time all the way up. Part of him was laughing at the way he
was acting; like some love sick kid... but he needed to see Saffron so bad that
he didn't care how ridiculous he might seem.
Saffron turned from the window, and shut the ringer off on
his phone, turning down the volume on the answering machine, though he doubted
Landan would call and he hadn't really called any one else, other then Matt,
and Lex. He glanced at the door at the knock and went over, unlocking the door
and pulling it open. He didn't even give Matt a chance to say anything, before
he threw his arms around his neck, hugging him, before pulling him inside and
shutting the door.
Matt waited for the door to shut before pulling Saffron back
into his arms and kissing him hungrily. "Gods angel...I've missed you so
much..." he whispered softly as the kiss broke. He brushed his lips over
Saffron’s forehead and looked down at him, taking note of the more feminine
clothing... and the more feminine appearance in general. "You look
gorgeous baby.."
Saffron smiled softly, though blushed. "Thank you... you
at least mean it..." He said softly, before kissing him again, his arms
around his neck again, just clinging to him. He'd missed him so much.'
Matt tightened his arms around him, kissing him back before
he lifted his into his arms. "Fuck you weigh almost nothing..." he
said with a soft smirk before kissing him again. "So... You're married....
this mean I get to be your boy toy on the side...?" he asked in a husky
growl as he nibbled at Saffron’s ear playfully. "Least until I find a way
to get you out of it... or kill the bastard and make you a widow..."
Saffron smirked faintly, letting his eyes close for a
moment, but sighed. "Its either that, or I go insane..." He answered
softly. "You don't mind being in an affair with me, do you?" He
asked.
Matt snorted softly as he cradled Saffron closer and headed
for the bedroom. "Why would I mind? You were mine first.. and I don’t give
a fuck what any court says... you're still mine.. The bastard just doesn’t know
it.."
Saffron smiled wearily, before kissing Matt again. "I
foresee you ending up killing him after all...I don't think he's going to let
me go very easily... but really, he has no room to talk.... he kissed other
women in front of me... saying they were old friends..."
"And he forces you to dress and act like someone you're
not... You're not property, Saffron... it's not like you to put up with shit
like that." Matt said simply as he sat on the edge of the bed and held
Saffron on his lap. "You're married.. you're not a slave... Kick his
fucking ass. Show him who he married."
Saffron sighed, quiet for a moment as he leaned against him.
"I was a slave before, Matt..." He said softly."I still am, really... just the prison
and bars have changed...He's a good manipulator. "
Matt groaned at that and slipped a hand through Saffron’s
hair. "Fuck... don't give in to the son of a bitch." he said softly.
"He tells you to do something just fucking smack him.. pretend he's Montgomery..
or me... You never had any trouble telling either of us where to go and what do
when we got there..." he added with a smirk. "Don’t give in to him,
angel… I'm doing everything I can to find a way to get you out of this.... damn
baby... don’t give up."
"I never said anything about giving up... I'm not going
back to the way I was when I was nineteen...I'll be damned before I submit to
any other man just to be used..." Saffron said softly, before sliding off
Matt's lap to sat on the bed with his legs crossed, the loose skirt riding up.
Matt snorted softly as he turned and leaned on his hip,
eyeing Saffron. He let the fingers of one hand brush over the skirt, pushing it
a bit higher. "Isn’t that what you're doing, baby?" he asked softly.
"Landan married you to use you... he uses you everyday you're with him in
one way or another... and you're letting him. You wear what he tells you to
wear. Act how he tells you to act...and I don’t even want to think about the
most obvious..."
"I suppose to a point you're right..." Saffron said
softly, looking toward the window. "But at the same time, the last thing I
want to do is piss him off...maybe I'm just trying to play it safe..." He
added after a moment, before turning from the window and leaned over, kissing
Matt.
Matt sighed softly behind the kiss and let it go, not
wanting to argue. It wouldn't matter anyhow since he planned on getting Saffron
away from the Fae as soon as possible. He let his hand slip along Saffron's leg
beneath the skirt, kissing him deeper. "At least I know he shit in bed...
youinvited me over the second his back
was turned..." he said with a smirk. "Damn ... that's right... We
actually get to use a bed this time..."
"Mhmm, you're right, he is shit in bed...actually, he's
an ass in bed, but that's bedside the point..." Saffron replied softly,
pulling off the top he was wearing, tossing it toward the chair in the corner,
leaving him in the skirt and camisole.
Matt gave a soft moan as he kissed his way down Saffron’s
throat, one hand still under the skirt, stroking the bare skin of one thigh.
"Let's see how much it takes before you forget him entirely then..."
he said softly, then chuckled. "Or before you start calling out my name
while you're with him... "
Saffron bit his lip, closing his eyes, a soft moan escaping
him. "Hmm, shouldn't take much to make me forget him...and gee...you get
to stick around for a few days..." He said softly with a slight smirk.
Matt slipped his free hand beneath the camisole and pushed
it up as he dropped his kisses to Saffron's stomach. "As long as you want
me, angel..." he said softly. He knew he should be out there tracking down
a way to break the contract and get Saffron free... but he couldn't pass up the
chance of spending a few days with him. "I'm all yours..."
"Hmm, I always thought that was the other way
around?" Saffron replied with a bit of a wicked smirk, laying back on the
bed. "But I'm certainly not going to complain..." He added softly,
letting his fingers run through Matt's hair.
"Angel... shut up and kiss me.." Matt said
playfully, his eyes sparkling as he stretched out above him and let his lips
brush lightly over his. "Time's wasting..."
~~
It went on like that four a few months, every time Landan
went on a business trip and left Saffron in Boston,
Saffron called Matt. And the change seemed even more obvious every time. At the
moment, Saffron was curled up to Matt in bed, listening to the rain outside. He
yawned, brushing the much longer hair out of his face.
Matt let his fingers trail lightly over Saffron's ribs, his
face resting against the top of his head and he closed his eyes, enjoying the
delicate scent of him. With a soft sigh he turned and kissed the top of his
head. "I can't do this any more, angel." he whispered softly, his
chest aching. He should've done this ages ago, but he'd been unable to resist
the temptation of having him to himself...
Saffron stifled another yawn and frowned slightly, before
moving enough to look up at Matt. "Do what?" He asked softly, looking
slightly confused, and a little scared.
Matt brought his hand up to stroke Saffron’s cheek as he
looked down at him. "This." he said simply. "This is killing me,
baby... I should be spending my time finding a way to get you away from him. I
NEED to be spending my time finding a way..." he added softly.
"Instead... I leaving to be here with you ... and seeing how little time I
have left..."
Saffron watched him a moment, before sighing softly.
"Not going to give up on that, are you?" He asked softly with a faint
smile. He didn't want to tell Matt he didn't think there was a way out of it,
but part of him was still hoping there was.
"Not until you're free, angel." Matt said softly,
letting his thumb brush over Saffron's lip. "So... despite the fact that
just thinking about it is fucking painful as hell... this'll be the last time
we'll be together until then..." he added, kissing him lightly.
Saffron was quiet for a moment, before kissing him back, a
bit deeper. "You're right, it is going to be hell...but I'll be waiting
for you, when you find it..." Saffron replied softly.
"I will find it, baby." Matt said softly as he let
his hand slip down to stroke Saffron's ribs again, his fingers trailing lower
with each stroke. "I swear... you know I can't stay away form you for
long. I'll find a way even if it's just me having the bastard
assassinated..."
Saffron smirked faintly. "Mmm, so if for some reason,
my...husband is shot beside me, I should act surprised?" He asked softly
with the same smirk, though it didn't quiet reach his eyes.
"don't worry about it... I don't think anyone would be
surprised." he said softly. "I think they're probably more surprised
no one's kill him yet..." he added, kissing him again. " I love you,
angel... You're my world... I won't rest until you can be mine alone..."
Saffron sighed softly. "I love you too, Matt. And only
you." He said softly, for the moment, not wanting to focus on the pain at
the idea of not seeing him for awhile. But then perhaps it was a good thing,
because he was beginning to think Landan was catching on...
~~
Matt was so focused on his destination that he failed to
notice the people who dodged out of his way or cursed at him as he bumped into
them. He felt the familiar tug of the connection with Saffron as he was still
on the stairs and by the time he hit reception he still hadn't decided if he
should gostraight to Kay's office first
like he came to do... or detour to find Saff first. As he paused by the door to
the staff room, still debating something smacked him in the face, startling
him.
"Dion, no! That's bad!" Saffron had just set him
in the high chair, to try and get him to eat some baby food, when he threw his
baby toy through the door. She pulled him from the high chair, balancing him on
her hip to go and retrieve the toy, though she hadn't failed to notice the
chill. Stopping in the door way, she did her best not to smirk to much.
"Hello Matt..." She said softly.
Matt's breath caught as he saw Saffron. "Hey
Angel." he said then grinned. "Guess what I found?" he asked,
his eyes sparkling as he went to her, one hand slipping up to stroke her cheek,
taking in the fact that the change had long ago finished. His gaze fell on the
child in her arms and his grin slipped into a slightly sad smile. "A bit
late, but..."
Saffron blinked, looking up at him. "You found a way?"
She asked softly, before biting her lip and looking down at her son. "It's
a bit complicated now..." She said softly, looking back at Matt. "I
won’t leave my son behind..."
"I'd never ask you to, baby." he said simply, his
hand going to stroke the boys face. "I'll adopt him. He'll be my son. Our
son." he said then slipped his other hand around her waist pulling her
close, his arms slipping around both her and the child. "Be mine again,
Saff..." he said softly before he leaned in the rest of the way and kissed
her hungrily; almost a year and a half worth's of waiting and wanting catching
up to him.
Saffron sighed softly behind the kiss, submitting.
"Gods, I've missed you..." Saffron said softly, leaning against him,
her free arm around his neck. "And of course I'll be yours... I always
have been..." She added. Dion didn't seem to mind in the least, he giggled
and reached for the phoenix around Matt's neck. Saffron caught his hand before
he could reach it.
Matt smiled softly and wrapped his hand over hers where it
held the childs. "You gonna tell me my soon-to-be sons name?" he
asked playfully then kissed her again. By this time they'd attracted a fair
sized audience who were busy cheering and applauding, making Matt blush even as
he tried to ignore them.
Saffron blushed darkly, hearing the cheers, and pulled back
from the kiss to hide her face against Matt's shoulder a moment, before
smirking faintly, pulling back to look up at him. "Dion...Gwyndion fully,
but I prefer to call him Dion... no, I didn't name him..." She said
softly.
Matt smirked then looked down at Dion who was still eyeing
the pendant, but now with a slightly pouty look since his mother had stopped
him from playing with it. "WellSaffron and Dion Hogan certainly sounds way better than... whatever the
fuck it is now.." he finished with a chuckle, then stole another kiss
before lifting the chain form around his neck and slipping it over Dion's head.
"You hold on to that for me, okay son?" he said. "Come on babe..
let's go see Kay."
Dion merely grinned up at Matt. "Well, I suppose I
should take this as a sign, he's not even this happy around Landan..."
Saffron said softly, before noticing just how many people had been watching.
She caught sight of both Lex and Lark who were smirking. "She's in her
office." Saffron said about Kay, nodding toward the offices.
Matt scooped Dion out of Saffron's arms and held him on his
far side so he could pull her closer and kiss her one more time without worrying
about squishing the boy. Then with a soft laugh, he caught her around the waist
and lifted her off the floor. "Fuck it's so good to hold you again, baby.
It's been the longest fucking year of my life..." he said, setting her
back on her feet, only to pull her along at his side. "Get the fuck out of
the way, damn it!" Matt snapped good naturedly to everyone, the smirk
still on his face. "Don’t you people have fucking jobs to do?"
Most of them scattered out of the way, but Lex and Lark
caught up, pausing long enough to kiss Dion on the cheek each, before Lex
looked at Saffron. "There was a phone message for you at the front desk,
Saff... Landan's going to be returning early... just so you have a heads
up." Lex said softly, before she and Larkin headed for the archives.
Matt laughed at that, his eyes sparkling. "Tough shit.
He'll be going home alone." he called after the twins, part of him taking
note that both red heads had also made the change into women, and that Lex was
visibly pregnant. For a moment he scowled as a thought nagged at him and then
remembered he'd received a wedding invite quite a while back. He'd been so
absorbed in his mission though he hadn't really paid attention... he just hoped
she'd understood and would forgive him.
Saffron smirked faintly, watching them go, before nodding to
the offices. They headed that way, and saw Faal just coming out of Kay's
office, so they knew Kay was still in there. Saffron was part unbelievably
happy, part anxious and a bit scared about what Landan would do over all
this...
"Hold it.." Matt said, stepping into Faal's path.
the fae raised an eyebrow at him, his eyes drifting over the child in his arm
and Saffron at his side, then back up to Matt's obviously happy expression.
"You found it.." he said softly, his voice a bare whisper.
"I found it..
get your ass back inside." Faal smiled at that then shook his head
lightly, but headed back to the office, the other right his heels.
Kay looked up asthey
entered, her gaze landing on Matt immediately. "You found it..." she
said, in the same soft tone Faal had used.
Matt grinned and let go of Saffron long enough topulled a piece offolded parchment from his pocket and hand it
to her. "Told you I would." he said simply as he slipped his arm back
around Saffron.
Dion had apparently gotten interested in Matt's blue hair,
and kept hiding his face in it, giggling and cooing. Saffron leaned around Matt
enough to look at him and was forced to smile, before looking back at Kay and
Faal. Kay took the parchment and looked over it, raising an eyebrow, before
passing it to Faal.
"So..?" Matt asked after watching the fae for a
moment. "Am I right? Will that do it?"Faal reread the parchment again, a slow smirk
growing as he nodded and looked at Matt, then to Kay. "I believe it will. UNCLE."
he suddenly bellowed, making Dion jump in Matt's arms, his eyes wide as he
stared at the fae, Matt's hair held in his hands. Matt just raised an eyebrow
at Faal as a rift suddenly opened behind him.
Gillorn came through the rift, yawning and scratching his
head, which was a mess of long blond hair, a real rats nest. He was also
wearing nothing more then pj pants. He eyed Faal a moment, stifling another
yawn and looked at the others. "You do know that it is somewhere after
midnight in Russia, right? I was trying to sleep..." Gillorn said to Faal.
Faal just snorted softly and handed him the parchment.
"Read that and tell me it's what I think it is..." he said simply.
Kay sighed heavily and started to drum her finger nails on
her desk loudly, shooting Faal a murderously annoyed look, which she then
turned to Matt. "One of you... tell me what it is..."
Gillorn took the parchment, rubbing his eyes a moment,
before producing a pair of reading glasses, which were more just for show, and
began reading, mumbling out loud at some points, before answering Kay.
"That if the Daughter of the Seal enters into a marriage by contract, the
contract would be come void when implied harm, that being both physical and
emotional harm. And it can only be challenged by her guardian. And as a safety
clause on the idiot husband's part, the challenge can only be backed by a
second son of high rank... hmm, That in it's self is where the problem
lies..." Gillorn said.
Faal took back the parchment and held out a hand to Kay.
"Might I borrow a pen, little one?" he asked before looking at his
uncle. "There is no problem... Mattias is Saffron's guardian and he believes
her to be under emotional harm, if not physical... And the challenge is being
backed by a second son of high rank.." he added a bit softer as Kay handed
him the pen, her face clearing questioning.
Gillorn crossed his arms over his chest, and leaned against
Kay's desk, giving Faal a look. "You do realize, what this means... If you
sign that, HE will know... He'll know you're alive, and that you remember... And
on top of that, Estehl is not going to be happy that you've been right under
his nose all this time...but that's his stupid fault..." Gillorn said with
a faint smirk.
Faal snorted softly, pausing with the pen in his hand and
the parchment smoothed out on Kay's desk. "I know, Uncle."
"He who?"
Kay asked as she reached forward and snatched the pen out of Faal's hand.
"Someone tell me what the fuck is going on.."
"I'm Saffron's
Guardian and according to that thing there, I can challenge the marriage
contract since I believe Saffron to be in harms way by her holding to it.
"Matt said softly. "And since Dominic's all ready to sign, I'm
assuming he's the 'Second Son of high Rank' I need to back me up and make the
challenge stick. He signs that thing... We win. Well... probably still have to
kick his ass, but that's fine.. Be disappointed if I didn't get to.." he
added with a smirk.
Faal shot him a slight smirk of his own before turning back
to Kay and holding out his hand for the pen. "The 'he' that Gillorn is
referring to, is King Teliveer... I happen to be his long lost son.. the one he
had be-spelled and cast out and no doubt believes is dead by now." he
said. "I need to sign my birth name, which will let him know I'm
alive..."
"You see, there was a reason why I wasn't present at
the wedding..." Gillorn said, "Because the white king was already
aware of a representative of the Seelie court in attending..." He added,
nodding to Faal. "In all reality, only a handful of people are aware of
Faal being Ellander Errin. But once he signs that...every fae in Ter Nah Nog,
is going to find out Ellander Errin is still alive. Most won’t really remember,
but Teliveer will.."
"Wait!" Saffron spoke up. "What about Lexi!
And the baby! Won’t that put them in danger?!"
Faal sighed softly and sent her a sad look. "Saffron...
Lexine will always be in danger.. that's why she has a Guardian. This will
certainly draw Teliveer's attention once he finds out I'm her guardian and
husband, but protecting you is just as important. She'd agree with me in doing
this, you know." he added then looked back to Kay, his hand still open and
waiting. "Little one... may I?"
Kaytoyed with the
pen, looking form Faal to Saffron then to the parchment. "Damn." she
cursed softly and handed over the pen. "You're right.. damned if we do,
damned if we don't.. At least this way both of them will be with their
guardians..."
"Ah, I believe I shall deliver the news to the soon to
be ex husband, that as of this moment, the Daughter of the Seal has been
removed to safety in her guardian's care." Gillorn said. "Oh, I would
advise you two staying here in the building for a couple days... Landan's bound
to retaliate... Also, best get a hold of your lawyer and start a mortal divorce
proceeding, Saffron. And custody and adoption
papers no doubt." Gillorn added.
Kay snorted, looked to Matt who nodded then snapped up the
phone. "Already on it." she said as she asked the front desk to get
Harry DeBrie on the line.
Faal drew a breath then signed the parchment with a flourish
and handed it to his uncle. "Thank you Uncle. Will you be delivering that
in your pajamas, by any chance? Or will you be making it a formal
occasion?" he asked lightly.
Kay snorted, smirking
as she pretended not to listen to them, waiting for Harry to pick up.
"Thank you.. both …ALL of you." Matt said simply.
"And apparently the son of a bitch is planning on stopping by early to
pick them up.. so youhave a choice..
You can either catch him before hand.. or just nail him when he shows up
here..."
Gillorn folded the parchment and turned to look at Matt a
moment, before looking at Saffron. "Saffron... how much do you know about
Landan?" He asked curiously.
"That his mother is princess of the UnSeelie court and
married to his father who is crown prince of the Drow..." Saffron
answered.
Gillorn suddenly smirked wickedly. "Hmm, I wonder...
Does he speak of his father fondly?" He asked.
"Very...and often..." Saffron answered, raising an
eyebrow.
"Then she never told him." Gillorn replied with a
snort.
Matt's own eyebrow shot up at that. "You know
something..." he said softly and looked to Faal. "He's almost fucking
scary when he knows something… look at him..." he said, his own eyes
sparkling wickedly. "I take it that this something you know... will piss
Landan off to the extreme?"
Gillorn looked Matt over, quiet for a moment. "Oh it
will do far more then piss him off to the extreme... but it'll also make things
a bit more difficult for you." Gillorn said softly. "Landan's... father,
Prince Cashus can't produce children... there for, Nimrodia...decided to take
matters into her own hands and had another Drow taken prisoner in the UnSeelie
court. Her step mother, Queen Mab, helped of course, with the perfect candidate
in mind. I doubt he'd even remember since Mab drugged him for nine days... and
of course... if Cashus were to find out...it would be rather bad... Landan's
father is hardly a ranking Drow..."
Matt's smirk grew. "Damn ... I like you. So Landan's
just another bastard... literally as well as figuratively? Doesn't that fuck up
the contract all on it's own? Never mind.. doesn't matter. The marriage is
fucking over..." he said then drew a deep breath. He glanced over at Kay
where she was speaking softly on the phone and smirked. "Hey boss lady!
Make sure while you're asking about the divorce and adoption.. you ask about
marriage licenses and shit too.." he said.
"Well, on the upside, Landan's real father, doesn't
care for the bastard either...as he and I have already talked..." Gillorn
said, his voice was a bit softer and he met Saffron's gaze. "Though I
really should point out the obvious to him of course...before this all goes to
fruit.. Still...he'll back Mattias..." He added, seeming to speak more to
Saffron.
Matt's smirk wavered. "Wait.. are you suggesting what I
think you're suggesting? Or.. dancing around suggesting..?" he asked
softly, his face serious, although a bit of the sparkle was still in his eyes.
"Are you trying to say that you think the Drow that was unlucky enough to
father Landan... is Rin?!" he asked, then looked down at Saffron before
looking back to Gillorn. "Holy fuck..." he said softly as he saw the
look on Gillorn's face. The smirk started to reappear on his face a bit at
that. "If you're serious.. and this is for real... The fact that his own
half brother just stole his wife and son away... is really going to fucking
piss him off..."
"Mab's brother and the Drow she kidnapped for Nimrodia,
is yes, Rin. Poor bastard... he and Mab have been warring for ages..."
Gillorn said with a cheerful tone and smile. Saffron on the other hand stared
at Gillorn wide eyed.
Matt laughed a bit harder. "Fuck.. I love this...Poor
dad." he added then laughed again and looked to Dion. "You hear that
kiddo? You're my flesh and blood after all..." he said then sighed, still
smiling. "Damn ... now I have to put off killing the bastard so he can
suffer for a bit with this news first... Give him time to be humiliated in
front of the Courts and his 'father'... "
Kay sighed heavily and Matt glanced over to see her off the
phone and giving him a hard look. "Hogan... don’t fucking push your luck.
You found a way. If that way gives you a shot at killing him... take it."
"Hmm, yes, well. The challenge will have to be carried
out in front of the four courts...or at least representatives of the four
courts, but no doubt Cashus will be there..." Gillorn said. He looked at
Faal a moment. "You'll have to be present of course... I have no idea if
Teliveer would venture out to be present or send his ever tiresome Duke.
Although... this may be one thing that gets father out of the Seelie court for
a while." Gillorn added with a smirk.
Saffron on the other hand, was leaning against Matt with her
eyes closed. She guessed it was a good thing she had most of Dion's travel
stuff here with hers...
"Alright... everyone shut up." Kay said simply.
"Dominic.. go tell Lex what you did so she can prepare herself. Graves...
take those two back to their room and see that Saffron gets some rest."
she said then looked to Gillorn, pointing a finger at him. "And you go
deliver your little bomb." she said with a smirk. "Harry has his
people prepping the paper work as we speak. You can sign tomorrow."
Gillorn smirked and saluted Kay, before opening a rift and
disappearing through it, with another yawn, closing the rift behind him.
Saffron sighed, moving enough to take Dion was getting fussy; he was obviously
still hungry. She was glad she'd had her things from her apartment put in
storage, Landan would have no doubt taken revenge on her stuff if he could.
Kay looked at the other two then made shooing motions with
her hands at them and Faal laughed softly as he headed for the door. When he
reached it he looked back at her, his eyes sparkling madly as he said,
"Yes Mother." before beating a hasty retreat, still chuckling
softly.
Matt choked back a laugh at that as he let Saffron take
Dion, and lead her to the door. "You need me to go pick you two up
anything before word spreads?" he asked softly. He had no doubt that Kay wanted to be alone so she could call her
husband and tell him the news and he shot her a smirk before he closed the door
behind them.
"No, I have most of Dion's travel stuff here...and all
the stuff I really care about is in storage down stairs... Nate and Eire were
nice enough to help me move when I was pregnant." Saffron said softly,
still trying to decide how she felt about knowing Landan was Matt's half
brother. "He's going to be furious..." She added after a moment.
Matt snorted, still smirking. "Yeah... smug arrogant
bastard..." he muttered softly. "Little prince-ling about to get
knocked off the throne and right into the gutter..." he added as they
wound their way through reception and into the staff room. "Oh hey... you
guys were about to eat.." Matt said softly as he saw the highchair still
waiting by the table. "Go ahead and feed him, angel. Don’t worry about
Landan, alright? You’re safe from him now..."
Saffron paused, leaning up and kissing Matt softly. "I
told you I'd be waiting for you..." She said softly, before taking Dion
back to the high chair and putting him in it. "Hmm, you might want to hold
on to this..." she said, taking the phoenix from around Dion's neck.
"He's a sloppy eater...IF he'll eat the baby food." She said. She
wasn't sure if she should tell Matt, how Dion ad been conceived... it certainly
hadn't been by her choice... not that she regretted having him. She loved her
son.
Matt smirked softly as he slipped the amulet back on before
moving to pourtwo cups of coffee then
taking a seat at the table. He set one mug down near Saffron and then just
watched her. "How long was it after.. I left,, before you changed
completely?" he finally asked softly.
Saffron made sure the baby food wasn't too cold, but not to
warm taking the top off of it and pulling the chair closer to the high chair.
Dion was eyeing the spoon. "About a month and half... maybe two..."
Saffron answered softly. "Dion's five months." She grabbed the wash
cloth from his diaper bag on the floor.
Matt snorted softly. "So...if I'd hung around a bit
longer... I might've been able to be his father completely then...?" he
asked softly as he propped an elbow on the table and rested his chin on it. He
sipped his coffee as he watched them both. "Sorry I took so long baby... I
never meant to leave you with him for so long..."
"There's always the next one...at least I didn't have a
daughter with Landan..." Saffron said softly. Dion kept turning his head
away from the spoon, proceeding to get the baby food every where. "I
despise Landan, but I wouldn't give my son up for anything....despite how he
came to be..." She said even softer.
Matt was smirking softly as he watched Dion, the change in
her tone not registering. "Well.. at least he takes after you in the looks
department. Looks like he's as stubborn as you too..." he added with a
smirk. "I'd offer to try but if he won’t eat for you .. he sure as hell
won't for me..."
Saffron snorted softly. "I've only just tried to start
him on baby food. But I guess its still too soon." She said, setting the
spoon down. "At least he's willing to take a bottle more and more, then
just nursing." She leaned forward, wiping the food off Dion's face gently,
before getting up to fix him a bottle. "Dion of course, being one of the
major fighting points between Landan and I...."
Mat snorted then on a whim shifted closer and took up the
spoon. He eyed the glop that was still on the spoon then tasted a bit.
"Hmmph.." he said softly then looked at Dion. "It's not that
bad, kid.. the fuss you're making you'd think it was tomatoes or something
disgusting like that..." he said lightly. "Sure you don’t some of
this?" he asked the boy who was making faces at him.
Saffron glanced back at Matt and Dion as she mixed the
bottle, and set it in a small pan of water on the stove, on low. "It's
nothing more then pureed beef." She said softly, with a slight smirk.
"Although he will eat apple sauce..." She added, "Just didn't
pick up any." Dion was eyeing the spoon and Matt. His eyes were dark, but
it was really impossible to tell if they were dark green, dark blue, or black.
Matt snorted. "Then next time mix some applesauce in
with the beef..." he said and offered the spoon to Dion. At the last
moment he pulled it back and raised an eyebrow at him. "Now.. no spitting
this back at me... got it? You want to dribble it over yourself.. that's cool.
Just don’t dribble in on me." he said then offered the spoon again.
"I can go get some you know... and diapers and whatever else you need...
Or we can order it in.."
Dion seemed to hesitate before opening his mouth after a
moment. Saffron snorted softly, moving back of the table a moment to pick up
her cup of coffee. "I probably will need diapers soon." She watched
Dion a moment, and shook her head. "Well you're already making a better
father then the other one... he wanted to have a nanny, a wet nurse and
everything else, taking care of Dion...so he wouldn't have to."
Matt just snorted and refilled the spoon. "You're just
a daddy's boy, aren't you? Showing up your mum..." he added with a
chuckle. "This is cool... I can feed you.. think we'll leave the diapers
to mum for a bit yet, though... Not sure I'm less of a wimp then Landan in that
department..."
"He wasn't a wimp, he was just a bloody asshole."
Saffron replied, going back to retrieve the bottle, satisfied it was at the
right temp. She sat it on the table as she sat back down. "Seriously Matt,
I'm not mad at you, for taking so long, I'm just relieved that you finally found
a way... It was getting damn near impossible to keep Landan out of my
room...." She said softly.
"He wanted that daughter." Matt said simply.
"And gee... guess who gets that honor now?" he asked, shooting her a
grin before turning his attention back to feeding Dion, although the boy was
already getting tired of the brown glop on the spoon as well as the novelty of
having someone new trying to feed him.
"Oh, it went past that... after our last day
together....Landan found out about the affair...I hadn't completely changed
when he beat me one night, for letting some one else touch me..." Saffron
said softly, watching Dion starting to turn his head again. She picked up the
wash cloth and leaned over to wipe his face. "When I did change, he didn't
even have the decency to wait for me to adjust to be a girl again, before he
forced me into bed with him."
Matt set the spoon aside carefully. "I figured things
were worse that you let on, angel... but if he beat you and raped you, why the
fuck didn't you tell someone? Married or not, that doesn't fucking excuse that
shit... and you or all people know you can't have your life in danger." he
said, obviously trying to keep his voice calm.
"Besides having a healer brought in, after he beat
me...? And I couldn't have cried rape if I wanted to, he saw to that."
Saffron said softly, before taking Dion out of the high chair and sitting down,
picking up the bottle. "He did his best to cut me off from my family here.
And if I did see my family, I was spelled that I couldn't say anything about
how he was treating me...his mother and... grandmother, made sure of
that." Saffron added.
Matt growled softly under his breath, making an obvious
effort not to explode. "Well.. you're safe now. I'm sorry I failed you
then, baby.." he said softly. "But he'll never touch you again."
"You didn't fail me. It just took you some time, that's
all." Saffron said softly as she cradled Dion while he suckled on the
bottle. "I think the only reason I can say anything now, is because you
are my guardian..." She added. She looked up as Larkin came in.
"Well it's nice
to know Lexi and I'll have a better brother in law." Lark said with a
smirk, heading for the coffee pot. "Least I'm ASSUMING you plan to marry
her." She added, looking back at Matt.
"I'm you Guardian, Saffron.." Matt said, not
looking at Lark for the moment. "I was supposed to be protecting you and I
didn't. " he said simply. "But that's over and done with and will
never fucking happen again." he added then sighed softly. "And I don’t
know whether you can tell me because I'm your Guardian.. or because we've
challenged the contract." he added. "Hey little red.." he
finally said, glancing over at her. "Yeah I'm marrying her and adopting
Dion... Harry's already working on all of it." he said before looking back
at Saffron. "Well... I actually haven't 'asked' her if she wants to marry
me..."
Larkin snorted. "As if you honestly have to 'ask'
her." She replied pouring her coffee. Saffron smirked faintly, looking
down at Dion, who's eyes were closing slowly. "I've waited a year and a
half, of course he doesn't actually have to ASK..." Saffron replied.
Larkin merely smirked. "Oh, and our other sister, Lexi, told me to tell
you, you're completely forgiven for not attending the wedding, since you found
a way to free Saffron." Lark added, heading back for the door. "But
you have no excuse not to attend mine and Nate's." She added over her
shoulder on the way out.
"Nate? As in MacDonnell?!" he asked in surprise.
"Fuck.... Dominic I kinda saw coming... but MacDonnell...?" he
muttered then looked to where Saffron sat with Dion in her arms. "Damn
you're beautiful.." he said softly. "How the fuck could anyone ever
hurt you..?"
They heard Larkin's laughter in the hall as she headed back
for the archives...or Nate and Eire's office, one of the two. Saffron looked up
at him and smiled sadly. "Common theme of my life, Matt...with the
exception of a few...and you of course..." She said softly.
"Well.. you're mine now." he said simply, sitting
back in his chair. "No one ever fucking hurts you again without dealing
with me." he added. "You hungry? " he asked. "I can take
the rugrat while you eat..."
Saffron snorted softly, but got up from her chair. "I
really haven't eaten yet today, so..." She stopped next to Matt. "And
it'll be good practice for you." She added with a slight smirk.
Matt smirked softly and held out his arms a bit awkwardly.
"Then give him here… I can hold him sitting up.. don't see why I can't
hold him laying down...As long as he doesn't pee or puke on me, we'll be
fine.." he added with a soft smirk as he took hold of Dion and carefully
got him settled. "Go on and grab something to eat, angel. I've got
him."
Saffron gave a short laugh. "Eventually, Matt, he'll
end up peeing or puking on you. It's what babies do." She said, taking a
thin blanket from the diaper bag and laying it on Matt's shoulder. "You're
gonna need that to burp him." She added with a smirk, before headed toward
the fridge.
"Well.. I'm sure eventually I'll be ready for that
stuff... but I've only been a dad for about twenty minutes… cut me some
lack.." he said with a smirk then eyed the blanket on his shoulder.
"What's that for?" he asked then whined. "Aww... he's gonna puke
on me when I burp him, isn't he?" he asked before shifting Dion to his
shoulder and rubbing his back lightly with one hand as he held him."Am I
doing this right?"
Saffron glanced back as she got a couple of the left over
chicken strips from the night before out of the fridge and decided they were
fine cold. "He doesn't puke, he spits up. And you're doing it fine. That
and a couple gentle pats on the back will do it."
Matt shot her a look as he patted the babies back softly.
"Spitting up IS puking... it's just puking a little..." he said
irritably, but his eyes were sparkling enough that he figured she knew he was
joking... mostly. "Soon as this shit's settled with the Courts, you two
are coming home." he said simply.
"Not right away..." She answered, leaning against
the counter, watching him while she ate. She heard the tiny burp from Dion and
minimal spit up and left her plate where it was on the counter a moment, before
going over to wipe his chin off and take the blanket off Matt's shoulder. Dion
was already going to sleep.
Matt gently laid Dion back down, cradling him in his arms,
watching him for a moment before looking back up to Saffron. "Like I
said... after the shit's finished with. And once we're married of course."
he added. "Once everything is official... we'll go home."
Saffron folded up the blanket, and leaned over, kissing Matt
softly. "Then I suggest, even once that's out of the way, you get to work
on a nursery." She said with a slight smirk, but straightened suddenly as
she heard a commotion down the hall; Apparently, Landan had arrived, and was
arguing with the reception desk, ranting about how his wife was supposed to be
at the hotel, not here.
Matt stood, careful not to disturb Dion. "Eat your
lunch, baby." he said softly, pausing to kiss her forehead before heading
the doorway, Dion still cradled in his arms. "Call security and have this
ass escorted out of the building. He's not welcome here." Matt said coldly
from the doorway, his eyes on Landan as the secretary hit the alarm for
security to come up, rather then calling; obviously Kay had notified them
already. A heart beat later a portal opened up and two men in Security uniforms
stepped through.
Landan had spun around, and glared at Matt.
"You..." He growled. His glare only seemed to intensify at seeing
Matt holding Dion. "That is my son...Where the hell is my wife?!"
Landan demanded.
Saffron fought every instinct not to go the door of the
staff room, as she listened to Landan ranting.
"Yes…Me. And no.. this isn't your son. And she isn't
your wife any longer either. " Matt said calmly. "A notice will be
delivered to you soon I'm sure. As Saffron’s Guardian I've removed her from
danger. She'll remain here in my custody and her son with her. Now get the fuck
out before I have you thrown out." he added with smile.
Landan snarled taking a step forward. "The hell you're
her guardian." He snarled. "Get your hands off my son!" He
yelled, which was enough to wake Dion with a cry.
Saffron sighed, that was enough to make her move and she
left the staff kitchen, "I'll take him Matt." She said softly behind
Matt.
Mat turned and handed Dion to her before ushering her back
into the room. "Get him out of here before I kill him for abusing my
charge." he said coldly and the two guards stepped forward. "Go home
and check your mail... brother." he added with a wicked smirk. "I
believe there's something waiting for you...."
"Saffron, don't you dare walk away!" Landan yelled
after her, "Get back here!" Saffron kept walking, going back into the
staff kitchen, trying to calm Dion down. How she managed not to look back was a
surprise to herself.
Landan turned a glare back on Matt. "Don't think you're
going to get away with this." He hissed.
Matt smirked at him, his arms crossed over his chest.
"I'm not the one who beat and raped the Daughter of the Seal then be-spelled
her so no one would know about it. You didn't think you'd get away with that,
now did you?" he asked. "I'm her Guardian... your bullshit doesn't
work where I'm concerned. Your marriage contract is null and void. Get the fuck
out of here before I tell her father what you did to her." he said as both
guards stepped even with Landan.
"Sir...If you
don’t leave voluntarily immediately... we'll just knock you unconscious and
toss you out on the street like the garbage you apparently are." Craig
said simply, making Matt smirk a bit more.
Landan seemed to recover his calm almost at once. He eyed
Matt for a moment, before giving him a cold smile. "We'll meet
again." He said simply, and turned, heading for the stairs with out
another word or look at any one.
"You just made one hell of an enemy..." Came a
soft voice from behind Matt where Lex was standing.
Matt snorted and cast a smirk over his shoulder at her.
"Hey little red.. don’t worry about it. Us being enemies was
unavoidable... Aside from him abusing my charge and soul mate... he's my
fucking brother.. He just hasn't received the good news yet..." he said
with a soft chuckle, his eyes sparkling. "You know... I think the chief
looked disappointed he left on his own..."
Lex stepped up beside Matt, looking toward the stairs
thoughtfully. "Hmm...he has a couple powerful fae behind him... not sure
if his...step father counts now...but his mother and grandmother especially. Possibly
his uncle Mordrid... all his 'friends'...and plenty of dark magic..." She
said, crossing. "You should be fine though..." She added after a
moment, looking Matt just as thoughtfully.
Matt smirked down at her before leaning down and kissing her
forehead softly. "Thanks for the vote, sis." he said with a smirk. "You
want to break the news to your dad or do you think Kay already did?"
"Mom already has. I'm just supposed to tell you our
father says you're to kill Landan when the time comes." Lex replied with a
slight smirk. "And besides... he may have all that behind him.. .but
you've got all us...if you need us..." She added, then groaned as she
spotted Estehl, who didn't look very happy. "Oh fuck...I'd best go tell
Faal..." She said, slipping behind Matt out of sight. She passed Saffron
in the door of the staff room, who'd managed to get Dion calm again and back to
sleep.
"Well, Gillorn
did say Estehl wouldn't be happy." Saffron said.
"Yeah, well at least he came through the front door,
rather then just show up..." Lex said softly, before heading for Faal's office.
Matt chuckled softly, shooting Estehl a smirk as he headed
for Saffron. The fae prince eyed him curiously, but didn't slow down as he
followed Lex. "The asshole has left the building, angel.. gimme the
munchkin and go back to eating. Before Dominic needs back up..."
Saffron snorted, but handed over Dion. "The day Faal
needs back up to handle Estehl, we'll all be in trouble..." She replied
with a slight smirk, before kissing Matt. "I'm proud of you...figured
you'd take a shot at Landan..." She said softly.
"Oh... don't think I wasn't tempted as hell. But first
I was holding the kid... and then I kept reminding myselfthat he hasn't got the news yet... "
matt said with a wicked smirk as he cradled Dion against his chest tenderly.
"Plus... it'll look better on me with the Courts if I wait to deck the son
of a bitch until he receives official notice..." he added
"Mmm, probably look better for you either way...Don't
think I've ever seen Landan loose it like THAT..." Saffron replied,
running her hand over Dion's head. "I just wonder how Rin's handling all
this..."
Matt's smirk slipped a bit at that and he gave a soft snort.
"I'm guessing he'll be by soon enough ... and then we can remind him of
the good news... He's a granddad.. and a father in law.. and a father in law to
be ..."
"Oh, I don't know... Gillorn did have a point...He was
certainly glaring at Landan at the wedding..." Saffron said softly, before
going over to sat down. She'd already finished eating. "He came to see me,
while I was pregnant. Reminded me not to give up on you." She said softly.
Matt smirked softly as he leaned back against the counter
and looked down at the child sleeping in his arms. "Did you need the
reminder?" he asked with a soft smirk. " Not that I'd blame you if
you had given up on me... I took fucking long enough and I abandoned you while
I did..."
"Not really." Saffron replied softly.
"Really, reminding myself every day you were out there searching for a
way, kept me going." She added softly. "Besides...I told you before
the wedding, my heart belonged to you."
~~
Lex glanced over her shoulder, before breaking into a run
and got to Faal's office first, going in. "He's coming down the hall, as
we speak." She told Faal. "And he doesn't look happy."
Faal sighed heavily. "Run for cover, sweetheart.. no
need for you to get caught in the cross fire." he said softly, smirking
softly. "I knew this was coming..." he added, stealing a quick kiss.
Lex snorted softly, with a faint smirk. But didn't have time
to say anything as the office door opened, Estehl coming in. Lex slipped behind
Faal's desk, out of the way.
Faal turned to look at Estehl, a soft, slightly sad smile on
his face. "Hello Estehl. " he said softly. "I don’t supposed
you'd care to step aside so Lexi may leave before you hit me?" he asked
lightly, a slight sparkle in his eye.
"Far be it from me to shed blood in front of a
lady..." Estehl replied a bit tense. Lex snorted, finally moving, pausing
long enough to kiss Faal softly. Before giving Estehl a dark look and leaving
the office.
Estehl raised an eyebrow at the look, before closing the
door behind her and turning back to Faal. For a moment, he merely stood there a
moment. "You little bastard!" He snapped after a moment, giving in.
Faal just smiled sadly. "If only..." he said with
a soft snort. "If it's any consolation... I didn't always know... All
those years helping you search... I really was helping you search. I had no clue..."
Estehl took a deep breath, running a hand through his hair
and shook his head. "Yes, I know." He answered after a moment.
"I got a message from inside the Court...Teliveer is...well beyond rage,
we'll put it that way. He's sending his assassins to the mortal realm..."
Faal smirked softly, leaning back so he was sitting on the
edge of the desk, his arms crossed over chest. "I shouldn't be
surprised... the man never did know what to do with me. First he be-spelled me
to get me out of his way, but still keep me alive so Mother wouldn't kill him
in his sleep. Then sold me... Again keeping me alive, but this time it wasfor that spare heir incase you proved to
betoo much of a liability... The he
wrote he off for dead and paid no more attention all this time. " he said
then shot Estehl a smirk. "And now that he KNOWS that you are a complete
liability as an heir and there is no hope for you... he decides to just kill me
and get it over with..." He snorted softly as he frowned. "you
know...I wondered at first why he didn't have you killed then had someone'find' me and brainwash me to be his heir...
I couldn't remember shit anyways... But then... I figured it was that I didn't
look enough like an Errin for his taste. Too much of Mother in me..."
Estehl snorted, moving over to the window. "Oh, I'm
sure he's flirted with the idea of killing me. Hell, he's known I was a
liability since he pulled what he did..." Estehl said.He was quiet a moment. "No, in
completely honesty...I think he's afraid of you." He said after a moment.
Faal raised an eyebrow at that. "Afraid of me? What..
since I was eighteen?! That's when this started...What kind of king who's held
the throne as long as he has is afraid of an eighteen year old younger son who
keeps to himselfand shows no desire for
attention. If he was afraid of me, he wouldn't had done half the things he
did.. he'd have just killed me. Mother was his excuse for letting melive at first... but he could've killed me at
any time after she died..."
"Oh, he wasn't afraid of you then. But he is now."
Estehl replied. "Although, maybe that’s one of the reasons why...You kept
to yourself...I openly flaunted everything..." Estehl added with a faint
smirk. "And on top of that...he's no doubt aware of how you've come to
remember...or I should say WHO helped you remember...He's warred with Gillorn
longer then he's warred with me."
Faal snorted softly then shot Estehl a soft smirk. "You
going to hit me or not?" he asked simply. "You haven't even asked me
how long I've known and kept it from you... I'll just assume Uncle told you
that he helped with the memories... You're not smart enough to guess on your
own.." he added, his eyes sparkling.
Estehl turned from the window, giving Faal a look. "As
a matter of fact, the sarcastic ass took great pleasure in informing me, on his
way to go see Landan's father. He's having the time of his life, passing
this...challenge around." Estehl replied, moving away from the window.
"And why exactly, do you think I would hit you?"
Faal smirked softly as he uncrossed his arms to rub at one
eyebrow, his eyes sparkling as he spoke. "Because you've been searching
for your brother for over seventeen hundred years... And I've known that I was
him for the past two and didn't say anything. When the topic came up... I made
some excuse to leave..." he said simply.
"I suppose that does warrant a good smack...for the
cheek. But then on the other hand, I have been looking for you...all these
years..." Estehl said, drawing closer to Faal, though his eyes were
sparkling. "And how is Lexine taking the fact you're a long lost prince?"
Faal snorted. "Fine up until now when I was still a
long lost prince in hiding.. Now that's it's out and the Court appearances and
royal duties start pouring in... I'm sure she'll be less than thrilled..."
he said dryly. "I'm sorry. We thought it would be for the best if no one
knew until the timing was right...."
Estehl snorted and looked at him. "And THIS was the
right timing?" He asked amused. "Well, I suppose there wasn't much of
a choice, considering. Your nephew, by the way, has been cackling evilly since
he heard... He plans on dropping into see Mattias and give him... tips..."
Estehl shook his head. "On the upside, Jasmine, hasn't heard yet... to
busy shoe shopping from what I hear..." He added, rolling his eyes.
"No doubt on my credit..."
"Neph...? Ah.. yus.. Sheldon." Faal said with a
blush. "Try not to think about family too often..." he added then
sighed softly. "You should turn him loose on Teliveer before the old man
decides to put an end to you and Jasmine... He might suddenly realize that a troublesome
heir is even more troublesome when he has heir's of his own to back him
up.."
Estehl snorted softly, stopping next to Faal. "It's a
thought that's crossed my mind..." He replied. For a moment, he didn't say
anything, before he reached over and smacked Faal upside the head good enough
to make a point.
Faal closed his eyes at the smack and smirked softly.
"Brother or not, I still think you're a cheeky, overbearing, stubborn
ass... which was why I almost enjoyed not telling you at times..." he said,
cracking an eye to shot Estehl a smirk. "A small bit of revenge for all
that crap you dragged me into..."
"All the crap *I* dragged you into?" Estehl
replied with a look, though his eyes were sparkling. "I should point out
all the crap you dragged ME into." He replied. "Is it any wonder
Gillorn is so fond of you... you have more faerie then the rest of us."
Faal's smirk grew a bit more. "I think the worst thing
you dragged me into was the entire pirate fiasco. The worst thing I dragged you
into was probably that botched break up and rescue of the child slavery ring
in... Where was that... Germany? No... "
"Not pirates, privateers; slight difference. Still you
spent half your time sea sick..." Estehl replied. "And no, that was
in Prague. I suppose then, I should remind you of Paris at the turn of the
century… oh well, no that was more Jasmine dragging us BOTH in to
trouble..."
Faal laughed softly and pushed himself away from the desk,
turning to face Estehl. "As much of a pain in the ass as you've been over
the years, Estehl... it's still been good to have you as my friend. If it
hadn't been for the whole 'formality' issue with my having to refer to you as
'highness' and all that crap the majority of the time, I might have considered
you a brother." he said, then smirked a bit more. "Of course.. now
that you ARE a brother.. I don’t HAVE to call you highness or any of that
nonsense. Feels good."
Estehl snorted, giving him an amused look. "You've only
really ever had to call me highness in front of other elves. Have I ever made
it an issue other then that? But I will say this... Ellander or Faal; you're
still a pain in the ass." He added.
Faal laughed softly. "Yes... I live to serve...Or did
anyhow." he added with a smirk then sighed heavily. "Oh go on and get
it over with... you've been waiting seventeen centuries..." he said
simply.
Estehl snorted. "Only because I’m pressed for time and
have to go head off these assassins..." He said, before pulled Faal into a
hug. "You completely pain in the ass..." He added, letting him go.
"And no doubt your lovely wife is waiting out side, in case of blood
shed..."
Faal smiled softly. "I know... even more so now that
I'm about to become a father... Your younger brother has married before you and
will produce an heir before you... If Teliveer knows I'm married and have a
child on the way... he'll try harder." he added.
Estehl sighed. "Yes, which is why I intend to head off
the assassins first. I'd leave Puk to
watch over you, but... I have a feeling Teliveer will actually chose to make an
appearance at the challenge... I doubt there's a way to keep Lexine from being
there, as Saffron has to be present..."
"I know." Faal said with another sigh. "How ever..
once it's known in Court that I am his long lost son and that Lexine is my
wife, he'll be forced to play the loving father role in the public eye. And
he'll have to help see to our child's safety at Court. Which means he'll have
plenty of opportunity to cause trouble. We'd been planning on making sure he
was no longer a threat before I reappeared, but Saffron needed me."
"It may still be he has to be knocked off the throne.
This whole thing may in fact lead to an inter-court war. The Drow will be
furious, both at Mattias, AND the UnSeelie for Nimrodia's deception... The Elvin
court will find sufficient reason to side with the Drow most likely...I'll leave
it up to Gillorn to make judgment on the Seelie's position...." Estehl
said, with a sigh, before heading for the door. "Time is wasting of
course."
"Thank you, Estehl." Faal called out softly as he
watched him. "Be careful." he added. "Don’t get yourself killed
just yet...I'll need you as back up when Jasmine finds out I'm
Ellander..."
Estehl snorted, opening the door, and noticed Lex was indeed
outside in the hall. "Yes, Jasmine will no doubt take it much more... rough."
Estehl replied with a slight smirk. "Go ahead, Lexine, he's fine." He
added to the red head, allowing her to enter.
Faal snorted softly at that but kept his comment to himself.
He was sure that Estehl had taken it far rougher than he'd shown, but Jasmine
wasn't one to hold in her emotions. He met Lex half way across the room and
smiled softly. "Teliveer has sent out his assassins for me...Estehl will
take care of them. Attending Court will be trickier since he doesn't dare show
any sign of his true feelings for us but will definitely be up to
something..." he said softly.
"Yus, I kind of figured that..." Lex replied
softly with a faint smile, looking up at him. She waited until Estehl had
closed the door behind him, leaving. "I'm surprised, I figured he would
have been a bit...more emotional." She added.
"Not yet." Faal said softly. "He'll keep
focused on what needs to be done and avoid the brunt of it for a while. It'll
hit later on... Jasmine won't hold back, however... when she hears I'll be in
trouble." he said with a soft smile, stealing a kiss. "Oh... and
Sheldon knows. Be prepared for him to start dropping the 'Aunt Lexi' jokes any
time now..."
~~
Saffron shut the water off. With Dion being five months she
found it easier to use the large sink in the bathroom rather then the tub to
give him a bath, which she'd wanted to do that morning, but now was just as
good a time, plus it'd put him to sleep. She sat him in the water, holding him
up, which he giggled, and she set about bathing him.
Matt slipped quietly into the room incase Dion was already
down, then heard the water running. He set the bags down and shut the door
behind him before heading to the bathroom. "You know... you could just take
a bath yourself and have him join you... I could come get him when he's had
enough..." he said.
Saffron glanced up at him, as she used the lavender baby
soap Lark had found, that actually helped calm Dion down. "I figured I'd
have a shower, once he was down for the night." She answered with a slight
smirk. Dion giggled, splashing in the water, grinning up at Matt.
Matt chuckled softly. "Sylvie had some things delivered
for us... diapers, baby food, a few other assorted things... Plus I hitched a
portal back to my place to grab some of my own things and make a few
arrangements. I have someone coming in to take care of that nursery and do a
bit of work. Depending on how long we're away, it'll probably be ready for us
when we get there."
"Well I suppose it depends on when it all falls into
place." Saffron replied. "I mean you and Landan facing each other and
all that. I imagine that'll be the deciding factor in how long we're
here..." She added, moving to was Dion's hair.
"Dominic says you have to be present... other wise I
send you there while I was dealing with Landan. It's holy ground so you'd be
safe from him and his family and his allies..." Matt said then sighed.
"But at least you're both safe here... As long as you don't make any more
grand gestures of martyrdom.." he added with a wry smirk.
"Of course I have to be present..." Saffron said
softly, looking over at him. "At least at the challenge. I'm not sure
whether ask Lex or Lark to stay here with Dion or not..." She added,
looking back at the infant as she cleaned him.
"Give him to Rin... let grandpa look after him. He'll
be thrilled. "Matt said dryly then chuckled. "You just want to keep
those two out of it... Hate to break it to you, but I think Lex has to be there
too seeing as she's the wife of the long lost prince and all that..."
"Yus well, you can't blame me for wanting to keep them
out of it. Once Teliveer discovers she's married to said long lost prince..."
Saffron replied, as she rinsed Dion off, "would you mind grabbing the
towel, please." she added, nodding to the folded soft towel on the
counter.
Matt snorted softly as he pushed off the door frame and
grabbed the towel, unfolding it and holding it out for her to lift him into.
"you can't protect them, Saff... that's why they have Guardians of their
own.. er well.. Lex does anyhow. I assume Lark does too..." he said then
smirked again. "My point is.. you have yourself and your son to worry
about."
"Yus, Lark does, she's marrying him. " Saffron
replied with a faint smirk, lifting Dion out of the water and letting Matt wrap
the towel around him. Dion yawned, looking sleepy. "You can't fault me for
trying, Matt...I'm the older of us three..." She added, looking up at him.
Matt bundled the baby into the towel and scooped him into
his arms, his eyes sparkling at Saffron as he cradled Dion and gently dried him
off with the edge of the towel. "I know... but it's not your job any more.
They have plenty of other people to protect them and keep their asses out of
trouble. You need to focus on keeping your own ass out of it.. because quite
frankly baby, you suck at self preservation. "
Saffron snorted, giving him a look. "I've managed all
this time pretty damned well." She replied evenly, turning to let the
water out, and clean up. "AT least I've tried." She added after a
moment of working quietly. "It's a good thing you didn't know me, when I
first escaped the Black Court...I'm sure I would have drove you up the wall
with being so....submissive and docile..." She added softly. "Though
maybe this last year...I've been more like that, then I should have
been..."
Matt gentle rubbed the soft black hair with the towel,
drying it as well as he could while Dion played with his amulet and made faces
at being dried off. "Well... you don’t have to worry about the whole self
preservation thing as much now that you've got your Guardian back on the
job." he said softly. "I've got him, angel... why don’t you go ahead
and have that shower or bath or whatever, and I'll see about tackling the
diaper and pj issue..." he said with a soft smile.
Saffron glanced back at him with a slight smirk. "Think
you can handle it?" She asked. "His pjs are on the bed." She
added. "Along with his favorite blanket." There was a small cradle
beside the bed she used for Dion when travelling, already made up.
"Yeah sure... Sylvie said there's no pins or shit like
that.. just stickers. Think I can handle stickers..." he said then shot
her a grin. "Gotta try some time.. better when he's sleepy and less active
and where I don’t have to worry about getting another one off first.." he
said thenhefted Dion a bit higher in
the crook of his arm and leaned forward to kiss her. "We'll be fine. If
not.. he'll .. stay wrapped in his towel until you're done.." he said with
a laugh and smacked her rear end lightly as he headed out of the bathroom.
Saffron laughed softly, watching him go a moment, before
turning to the shower, setting the water, before she stripped out of her
clothes, tossing them in the laundry basket for now. She hadn't bothered with
closing the door, instead she simply got in the shower and pulled the curtain
Matt grabbed the diaper bag and tossed it on the foot of the
bed before laying Dion down and following the instructions Sylvie had broken
down and given him. Luckily Dion was sleepy enough that handing him the amulet
was enough of a distraction to keep him still. He managed to get a diaper on
fairly straight with out wrecking any.. and only making a small mess of the
baby powder in the process.
The pajamas proved much easier, and once he was set, Matt
tossed the towel over the chair and lay down on the bed with Dion lying on his
chest. The boy had one hand clenched around the amulet and Matt could feel the
soft flutter of his eyes as he fought sleep suddenly stop as he lost the battle
and dropped off to sleep.
Saffron showered quickly, just out of recent practice. She
turned off the water and got out, grabbing a towel for her hair, wrapping it up
and then wrapping one around her body. The rest of her clothes were out in the
room and she hesitated a moment, before heading out to grab her night shirt and
knickers. She paused a moment, looking at Matt with Dion, before smirking
softly. "You'll have him spoiled and he hasn't even known you more then a
day." She said with a slight smirk.
Matt looked up from watching Dion sleep and smirked
sheepishly. "We're bonding. He's had a jackass for a father his entire
life so far.. let him get used to.. well.. having an asshole for a father
instead.." he said with a soft snort. "Besides... I kinda like it...
feels good..." he added softly, stroking the boys hair softly.
Saffron snorted softly, going over to her bag, in the chair
by the bed, leaning over to unzip, even if it did give a nice view of her cleavage.
"Easily explained, Landan didn't really love Dion." She answered
softly, digging out her knickers and a sleep shirt.
Matt snorted softly, lowering his gaze back to the child
asleep on top of him. "Well I do." he said softly. "It's not
something I ever thought I'd feel... but then again, never figured I'd ever
fall in love or have a best friend who was closer to being my soul mate then
anything else..."
Saffron blushed faintly, but smiled. "Closer, or
Am?" She asked softly heading back toward the bathroom, but leaving the
door cracked enough. She shed the towel and quickly pulled on her knickers and
sleep shirt, before turning off the bathroom light and heading back out into
the bedroom and sat on the edge of the bed.
Matt reached out to stroke the fingers off one hand over her
arm until he reached her hand then took hold of it. "You are." he
said simply. "You're everything, angel." he added then smirked
softly. "And getting dressed was a waste of time you know... They're just
coming back off again.."
Saffron snorted softly. "Well I believe that requires
putting him in his cradle then." She said softly. "Care to do it
yourself, or should I?" She asked.
Matt smirked softly. "Can I get up without waking
him?" he asked then laughed softly. "Go on and take him..."
Saffron smirked, but leaned over, picking up Dion gently, he
stirred only a moment, before yawning and going right back to sleep. She headed
around to the cradle, grabbing his blanket off the bed and laid him down,
tucking him in, pausing long enough to lean over and kiss him on the forehead.
She turned off the lamp beside the cradle, leaving the one on, on the other
side of the bed.
As soon as Saffron had Dion, Matt got up and started getting
undressed. He found his heart was pounding as frantically as it had their very
first night together and he blushed through a smile. "No more sneaking
around and keeping us a secret.... No more letting you go..." he said
softly over his shoulder as he tossed his shirt aside. "Sounds like
heaven.."
Saffron smiled softly, turning back to watch Matt a moment,
before she went around to him. "We really weren't that much of a secret to
everyone round here anyway." She said softly, letting a hand rest on his
chest.
Matt snorted. "Didn't mean here... These people love
the shit out of you ... they'd have never told on you. Every single one of them
would've have willingly killed the son
of a bitch if they'd known what he was doingto you.." he said softly, slipping his arms around her. "But
now the world can know. You can be MY wife and not his... you can have my
name... you can be by my side..." he said softly, blushing slightly.
"It's been almost a year and a half, baby... let me finish getting
undressed before you get too tempting. "
Saffron smirked slightly, before kissing him. "I wanted
to be your wife from the start." She said simply, letting him go, turning
to the bed and pulling back the blankets, before she pulled off the night
shirt, her back to Matt.
Matt quickly finished getting undressed and caught her from
behind, kissing her shoulder. "Should've kidnapped you that night and run
off to Vegas..." he said with a soft smirk as he kissed her shoulder again
before lifting her off her feet and tossing her onto the bed before crawling
over top. He smirked down at her, his eyes sparkling like crazy. "Welcome
home, angel..."
"Ah, but kidnapping me and running off to Vegas would
have only caused a shit load of trouble. At least this way it can't be
contested...and who's going to try and take me away from my guardian now...?"
Saffron replied, wrapping her arms around his neck.
"Hmm... but could you imagine the look on his face when
he showed up in the morning to marry you only to discover you were already
married?" he asked as he kissed her neck, his hands running lightly over
her ribs, part of him trying to remember how it had felt before she'd changed
and unable now.
"Hmm... well it certainly would have been a hell of a
shock...Might have even been enough to break the contract..." Saffron
replied. "But then I really wouldn't have Dion either..." She added.
"Sure you would... Just would've been me that gave him
to you instead of my dear brother..." he said. "How about we piss him
off even more and work on that daughter he really wanted...?" he asked
with a wicked chuckle.
"Well I certainly have no objections to that."
Saffron replied, with a smirk of her own, she let her hands run over his back.
She missed having him so close after so long and figured she'd be on a high for
weeks.
Matt let his lips graze lightly over the skin of her throat
as he moved back up to her lips, kissing her hungrily. He wondered if her
kisses really did taste sweeter and more intoxicating now that she was a woman,
or if it was just his imagination for being apart from her for so long. He
moaned softly into the kiss, his entire body feeling as if it was throbbing in
time with his erection. "Godsbaby.." he whispered huskily as he broke the kiss long enough for a
breath and to pull her underwear off. "It's been too long..."
Saffron smiled softly, moving enough to let him pull the
satin boylegs off. "Now you have me forever..." She said softly,
letting her hands caress over his skin. She'd missed this so much.
"The way it should've been .." Matt agreed softly
as he tossed the flimsy bit of material aside and looked down at her, seeing
her for the first time. "Damn baby... you're even more gorgeous..."
he said softly before he smirked wickedly and bent down to kiss her center. He
licked and kissed, tasting her. "And you taste even better..." he
added softly.
Saffron whimpered, squirming slightly, one hand tangled in
his hair, the other gripping the blankets. "And you're still a
tease..." She replied softly, with a faint smirk.
Matt continued to tease her a moment longer before giving a
final kiss and moving, sliding over her to catch her mouth with his. "You
fucking love it..." he said smugly as he reached down to rub his erection
against her lightly, biting back a moan of his own. "Word of warning
angel... I ain’t lasting long... you've always been able to rip my control to
shreds and this time around, I don’t have any to begin with..."
"Mmm, and I do?" She asked softly in reply with a
coy smirk. "And of course I fucking love it...from you anyway." She
added, with the same smirk before pulling him down and kissing him deeply and
hungrily.
Matt moaned into the kiss, kissing her back just as
passionately. Shifting slightly above her, he slipped inside her, a deeper moan
escaping at the feel of her surrounding him. He broke the kiss to catch his
breath as he began to move, his eyes locking on hers. "Just remind me to
keep quiet... No need to wake junior up..." he said with a slight blush
even as he bit back another moan.
Saffron couldn't help but smirk. "Welcome to being a
parent." She replied, slightly breathless. She wrapped her legs around
Matt's hips, a soft moan escaping her, her eyes closing for the moment, letting
him control things.
"Not complaining..." Matt said softly as he
struggled to hold back, keeping the pace slow and deep. "If it was a
problem.. I'd have dragged your adorable ass into another room..." he
added, kissing her again. "Although... when the honeymoon hits.. He'll be
staying over with his aunts or grandparents a night or two at least..."
"Of course… Lark's already offered." Saffron
replied, slightly breathless. "I just hope this whole business ends
quickly...so that we can get married soon..." She added,
"I'll make sure Harry has the license and shit right
there ready when he hands you the divorce papers." he said with a smirk.
"But for now.. shut up and kiss me..." he said with a wink and wicked
smirk, letting the pace build a bit faster as he brushed his lips over hers
playfully.
Saffron sunk one hand into Matt's hair, before catching him
in a deep and hungry kiss. She could already feel the orgasm building and
wouldn't be able to take much more. She'd just have to remember to be quiet.
Matt lost himself in the kiss, letting his body move at it's
own pace, and wondered if either of them would be getting any sleep that night.
Maybethey should see about the twins
taking Dion for the day so they could spend some more time together.... and not
have to be as careful of being quiet.Matt caught her tongue as it licked over his lip and sucked on it
playfully as he felt his orgasm just waiting for his control to slip a fraction
more... Or for Saffron to cum and take him over that edge with her.
Saffron's hands slipped to Matt's shoulders, and her nails
dug in slightly. She whimpered behind the kiss, struggling to hold on for just
a few more minutes, but it was useless. The orgasm hit her harder then she
remembered, she managed to stifle the cry behind the kiss, but her nails dug a
bit harder and she arched under him.
Matt felt himself go with the thrill of her nails biting
into him and her body tightening around him. He kissed her harder, clamping down
on his noise just as he was clamping down on the power surge that threatened to
play havok with his abilities.
She pulled back from the kiss after a moment, struggling to
catch her breath, her abilities on a high she hadn't experienced for so long,
and a soft giggle escaped her. "Gods, I love you..." She said softly.
Matt panted for breath but still managed a soft chuckle.
"I love you too, angel." he said softly, letting himself rest above
her for the moment. "We're not getting much sleep tonight.. not with a
year and a half to make up for..."
Saffron snorted softly, with a slight smirk. "Give me a
chance to catch my breath..." She replied softly. "Although, he'll
wake up about midnight hungry, so we'll have to take a break then..." She
added, glancing at the cradle.
Matt chuckled again and moved off of her, laying on his side
and pulling her into his arms, kissing her softly. "Fuck you are the most
incredible person I have ever met... and you're mine..." he said softly,
his eyes sparkling. "Fuck I'm lucky..."
Saffron snuggled into his arms, smiling softly. "With
you being my guardian, it just means I was meant to be yours...from the
beginning." She replied softly. She hadn't felt this happy and content or
this safe, for a year and a half.
"So you were born for me, angel?" he asked softly,
his breathing coming under control again as he held her close. "Or I was
born for you and just had to wait....?"
"I suppose it depends on how you want to look at it..."
She replied softly. "Rin made a rather interesting point when he visited.
Apparently the day I came into my abilities, was the same day you came into
yours, so to say..."
Matt was quiet at that bit of news for a moment as he
stroked her hair. "So... basically.. I came back form the dead for
you..." he said softly, kissing her forehead tenderly.
"Well I was told once by the seer in the white court, I
was only meant for one man..." She said softly, stifling a yawn. She was
tired, but she wasn't sleepy.
"And you have him...." Matt said softly, stroking
her cheek as he held her, bending to kiss her forehead again. "And he has
you. And couldn’t be happier." he added before snuggling down a bit more
comfortably and pulling her closer. "Get some rest, baby."
"Well I know I haven't been this happy, content and
safe, since the last day we were together..." She said softly, snuggling
closely, laying her head against his shoulder. She smiled softly, letting her
eyes close.
"Same here, baby..." Matt said softly as he held
her. "I don’t think I could've lasted one more day away from you .. but
then.. I felt that way ever day we were apart.. thank the gods that over
with." he said with a soft smirk and kissed her forehead, cuddling her
closer into him. He closed his eyes and just let himself relax to the feel of her
in his arms and the sounds of their breathing mixed with the soft sound of Dion
in his cradle, and found himself feeling truly happy and relaxed for the first
time that he could remember.
~~
They were waiting to see Harry over the paper work, sitting
in the small lobby out side his personal office. Dion was far from being quiet
either. He leaning forward from Saffron's lap to reach for the magazines on the
table. And managed to grab one at one point, with a giggle, throwing it toward
the floor. Saffron sighed, reaching to get the magazine off the floor, shifting
Dion out of the reach of the table.
Matt's eyes were sparkling as he watched Saffron and Dion.
"Turn him loose, babe." he said softly. "Set his ass on the
floor and let him destroy the place.... Harry'll call us in, in record
time." he chuckled softlyas he
slipped his arm behind her, rubbing her back lightly."I heard that." A deep voice said
form beside them and Matt glanced over to see Harry DeBrie standing in the
doorway looking like he wasn't sure he should be amused.. or horrified.
"I'd rather you didn't... the place is insured against damaged from
everything except children... it's not something I've had a problem with up
until now."
Saffron snorted softly, shifting Dion yet again, out of
reach of anything and digging one of his toys out of the diaper bag to give
him. "I can assure you he's hardly destructive. Five month olds hardly go
around destroying offices." She said softly with a faint smirk. Dion
giggled softly, before sticking the head of the oddly gothic baby toy in his
mouth.
Harry smirked softly at that. "You'd be surprised.
Perhaps you simply haven't met the right.. or.. wrong children..." he said
then stepped aside and waved a hand for them to join him. "Why don’t we
step inside and discuss things in private? The place is protected, but the
offices have extra protection for privacy..."
Matt snorted softly
as he stood and helped Saffron to her feet, taking the diaper bag form her.
"Sounds like you deal withspies
and scrying spells too often."
Harry gave a soft
snort. "You'd be surprised."
"That is something I wouldn't put past HIM, Matt."
Saffron said as she got up, balancing Dion on her hip. He continued to chew on the
baby toy, laying his head against her shoulder. "After all...look how he
is." She left it hang at that as they followed Harry into the office.
Matt snorted softly as they walked into the office, his gaze
travelling over the simple yet elegant surroundings. He'd seen a couple lawyers
offices before and they all had that look of 'sameness' to them with there
bookshelf lined walls and, dark colors and heavy wood desks. Harry DeBrie's
office was a large, light and airy corner office , withlarge windows in two walls showing the city
and the park below. The heavy wood desk
was indeed present, but was offset by comfortable modern chairs.
Harry ignored the desk and motion to the other side of the
office where a relaxed looking seating area was lit by the windows. "Did I
say we didn't need the extra protection?" he asked and they took a place
on the sofa. Several folders lay on the mosiac covered coffee table before
them.
Saffron snorted softly, sitting down, Dion had quieted, his
head still on her shoulder, looking ready to fall asleep. "I wouldn't
blame you if you did need it in this line of work." She said softly,
rubbing Dion's back.
Harry moved to sit in the seat across from them. "To be
honest, Saffron... before I met your step mother, I employed a witch to keep my
office free of spy like spells. After working for her all this time... I now
employee several witches and several fae, as well as the more mundane 'technological'
security so that ALL the bases are covered. I find it's only really warranted in
cases against other fae, however. Not even demons are as sneaky and underhanded
when it comes to the fae and legal procedures." he said with a soft smirk.
Saffron smiled faintly. "That I have to totally agree
with you on. And I'm sure a few of the others in the office...Faal being one of
them, would even agree." She replied softly. "And with dealing with
Landan....well, as I said, I wouldn't put anything past him at this
point."
Harry smirked a bit more at her mention of Faal. "Of
course Faal would agree... he's the one who suggested I take more
precautions." he said then sighed softly and leaned forwards, resting his
arms on his knees. "I've been brought up to date on everything, Saffron,
and I've had my people look into Landan to see just how much of a pain in the
ass he's going to be. You can speak freely here." he said simply and Matt
cleared his throat, leaning back against the sofa with one arm around Saffron,
the fingers of his hand toying with Dion's hair as he lay snuggled in her arms.
"So... what's the news then?"
Harry smirked softly and waved a hand at the folders on the
table. "The divorce papers are drawn up and carefully worded so he can't
find a way to wiggle around it or anything. I've had one of my associates who
is fae help with that and she assures me, it's good. I also have a new marriage
license ready to go, effective as soon as the divorce is finalized. The
adoption however, is a bit sticky,..."
Saffron sighed. "Landan wont challenge the divorce
papers here...it took it almost six months to make sure there was a legal
mortal marriage license." She said softly. "I'm not sure why the
adoption would perceive trouble...he didn't want a son..." She added.
Harry gave her a tired smirk. "And that would stop him
from trying to prevent it just to hurt you?" he asked simply. "From
what I've learned of Landan, whether he wants Gwydion or not, he'll fight like
hell to keep him, if only to hurt you and Matt. The child's welfare and well
being mean nothing to him. Now, I have already filed an injuction with a judge
to full temporary custody to be granted to granted to you on the basis of
spousal abuse and the impending divorce proceedings. That's taken care of. The
adoption papers are here as well and Matt can sign them, and I'll file them as soon
as the divorce is finalized and the two of you are legally married. I'm just
letting you know, that between the divorce and Gwydion’s custody in the mortal
realm, the custody will be the bigger battle and that will be out of
spite."
"Yus, I suppose you have a point. But then on the other
side, I'm not sure how much of this is going to matter to Landan, he may end up
focusing all his attention on the challenge. Rather he looses credit with the Drow,
he's still an UnSeelie prince...and he's not about to let the daughter of the
seal go..." Saffron replied softly.
Harry spread his hands as he sat back. "That is out of
my hands. I deal with the stuff on this side of the borders. And that may very
well be the case... he may be so focused on those proceedings that he lets all
of this go by. Or, like many Fae, he may hold our Legal system so much in contempt
that he wouldn't even consider it a problem or binding..." he said
thengave a half shrug. "The fight
to get the marriage legalized here would certainly point to that attitude. And if that's the case, things will fly
through without a problem... but I'm still taking great care with all the
wording in every document that I file just in case." he said with a smirk.
"Any questions before we get started?" he asked.
Matt snorted softly. "Yeah .. I got one. If he doesn't
fight any of this... how long will it take?"
Harry eyed him a moment, a small smile appearing. "In
that much of a hurry, are you?" he asked. "With no fight, the divorce
will be finalized in a month. I could've pushed for it quicker if there'd been
any abuse reports or charges made against Landan, but since there isn't... one
month. The adoption, assuming it's not fought either,again.. I can have it legalized with in a
month."
"That's just because I was spelled not to say anything
over the abuse." Saffron said softly, checking on Dion, who was fast
asleep. She had to pick up his baby toy and put it back in the diaper bag.
"I don't know how much good it would do to bring up the abuse." She added.
Harry smiled softly. "Abuse is a big case buster, especially
when children are involved. A single
report filed against him, even if it was filed by someone from a previous
relationship, could help immensely with the right judge. That's assuming he contests
it at all. And being spelled to silence probably wouldn't hold sway, whether
it's true or not. Sadly, the majority of judges still don't place magic
interference very high. We have to work our legal asses off to prove it to
their satisfaction, unless you get a judge with experience."
"I rather figured that was the case; probably why he
did it in the first place." Saffron said softly, "I suppose we should
sign what we can now, while we're here." She added.
"He did it because he knew if anyone found out they'd
fucking skin him alive." Matt growled softly. "You're the Daughter of
the Seal... you're to be protected at all costs and he's abusing
you."
Harry flipped open the top folder and set it in front of
Saffron, handing her a pen. "Here's the divorce papers. Now I just did a
standard separation with personal property being split equally between
parties... plus the custody. However, if you wanted to take the bastard for
everything he has... that can be arranged." Harry added with a impish
smile.
Saffron shifted Dion slowly, so she didn't wake him up, but
that she could take the pen. She paused. "Considering how much money's
he's worth, that's incredibly tempting, but really, I just want to be divorced
from him. As for a separation of property...there isn't anything to separate,
except possible the things that were gotten for Dion."
"Well actually, Saffron.." Harry said in a sly
tone of voice that made Matt's eyebrow quirk slightly. "Division of mutual
property... can be quite painful." he said, his eyes sparkling. "I
assume there was no prenuptial agreement concerning property and money
matters?"
Saffron paused, having only written her first name.
"No, there was no prenupor matters
concerning money. A copy of the contract was delivered to me, I took it to my
mother's lawyer in Paris, and was informed in the process that Landan had declared
the wedding would take place the next morning. And that I had no choice but to
sign. I tested that, but there were no loop holes to be found at the
time." Saffron said softly.
Harry smirked. "Well... in that case... as soon as you
became his wife... everything he owned, became yours as well. And vice versa.
Thus 'mutual property' is considerably more then just what has been purchased
since the marriage. So, equal division means... you get half of
everything."
Matt raised an eyebrow at that and then chuckled.
"Well.. that would really sting... if he wasn't about to loose it all
anyhow..."
"Well I suppose that's not bad at all..." Saffron
replied with a slight smile, before finishing signing her full name. She was
glad again, that all her stuff from her old apartment had been moved to storage
in the building, though that reminded her, of the gift she'd gotten Matt before
the wedding and hadn't had a chance to give him. It was in with the rest of her
stuff.
Harry chuckled softly. "And I took the liberty of
checking... any property or accounts that you have under a different name then
the one on your marriage contract... are not included in that... Of course, same
goes for him.." he said, flippinga
page over and pointing out where she needed to sign next.
"Wait..." Matt
said softly, eyeing the lawyer curiously. "What do you mean...?" he
asked. "You mean... anything under an alias..?"
Harry smirked a bit more. "I mean... depending on which
name Saffron has things... The name on the marriage contract is Mordant, is it
not? Yet Saffron hasn't gone by Mordant since childhood... and is unlikely to
own anything under that name...."
"My bank account before the wedding was under
Azreal." Saffron replied as she signed. She paused a moment. "The
house in Mexico was under Azreal... Not that Landan knew about the house in
Mexico anyway..." She added, finishing signing. "Well there was the
insurance over my movie posters, but they too were under Azreal... I really
didn't use Mordant again until that night...and the wedding."
Harry smiled cheerfully. "I thought as much. You're
soon to be ex husband is incredibly dense when it comes to the mortal legal
system and has left himself wide open." he chuckled softly as he indicated
the rest of the places for her to sign. "I don’t see any problems with
this going through quickly and painlessly. Although it does make me wonder why
you bothered insisting on having the marriage legalized here at all, if he
didn’t want it. Our system doesn't recognize your marriage contract... You
could possibly have even married someone else out here while still married by
court standards to Landan... " Harry said. "Although I'm sure they
wouldn't have been pleased with that idea..." he said, taking the folder
and handing her a second one. "This permission for Matt's adoption of
Gwydion... when the time comes."
"I didn't insist on the marriage legalized here...His
mother did...about the last time I was with Matt...she apparently found out I
was having an affair...with Matt, and told Landan. It was her idea to spell me
into silence, especially after he beat me that night." Saffron said,
signing the permission for the adoption.
"Ah." Harry said simply as he opened another
folder and handed Matt a pen. "Adoption papers... name change included, of
course... right there and .. over there." Harry said, pointing out where
to sign as he did. He looked back to Saffron. "I can still press the abuse
angle if you want to go that route. In the absence of charges against him, we
could go with a statement from a therapist stating that you've discussed the
matter with them and their thoughts on it... plus on Gwydion’s reaction to it.
I suggest if you go that route, that we also bring into play the abuse and
neglect towards Gwydion as well..."
"Do you really think it's needed?" Saffron asked
softly. "Not everyone's heard about it where my family is concerned,
though I know those who have, would of course suggest me going with it...I'm
just...weary I suppose...." She added softly.
"Needed... not necessarily..." Harry said softly.
"But do you want to take any chances? I suggest taking every opportunity
available to you to make this come through quickly and on your side. I have a
couple very reputable psychologists and child psychologists who I've worked
with in the past that are highly thought of with a great many judges. As I
said, I doubt this will even be contested, but Fae are generally a notoriously
unpredictable bunch and it's better safe than sorry..." Harry sighed and
reached out to cover her hand with his own, a uncommon gesture from him.
"Saffron.. if you're worried about things becoming known among your family
or friends that you'd rather not have known... Unless Landan makes a huge case
of it, none of it will even leave the court room. As a matter of fact, none of
it will even be spoken out loud, if there’s no contesting. I'll simply present
the reports to the judge who will consider them."
Saffron bit her lip a moment, she looked down at Dion,
thinking. "You're right, I wouldn't put it past Landan to try
something..." She said softly, looking back at Harry. "It probably is
a good idea to pursue all opportunities. And in the case of my son...who's
already showing signs of inheriting his father's abilities..."
"Then I'll have appointments set up for the both of
you. In Gwydion's case, since he's not old enough to speak, the psychologist
will provide him with different stimulus... photos and toys and see how he reacts
to them. If you have any photos of Landan they would help.. if not I can have
some 'found' .."
Matt looked up at him as he finished signing and shook his
head slightly. "You are fuckingenjoying this..." he said and Harry laughed, his eyes sparkling.
"Definitely... I love my job..especially when it doesn’t involved trying to
get the boys out of trouble or debating damage charges..." he said with a
soft laugh. "Care to sign the marriage license now as well? It can't be filed
until the divorce is official, but I can keep it on file until then."
"Might as well, save on a little time." Saffron
replied softly with a slight smirk. "I should have a couple pictures of
Landan Well there's certainly the wedding pictures..." She added, shifting
Dion in her arms, who curled up a bit more.
Harry replaced the papers into the folders and set them
aside before opening the last one and handed them more papers to sign. "I
have everything else I'll need. I'll take this and the adoption papers with me
when we go to court for the finalization of the divorce and then file them
immediately." he said as Matt signed.
Saffron took the pen from Matt and signed in the designated
spot. She looked at Matt with a slight smirk. "Well, on the upside, we
don't have to do a fancy wedding..." She said softly.
Harry laughed softly. "Are you sure about that?"
he asked, earning a look from Matt that only made him chuckle a bit more.
"I think your family might like to mark such a happy occasion this time
around. Happier wedding photos and all that. And I don’t think a divorce party
would be out of place either..."
Matt snorted at that. "I doubt you could stop
one..." he said with a smirk of his own.
Saffron actually laughed. "You have a point." She
said to Harry. "And of course, my sisters would be rather...put out if I
didn't allow them to be brides maids, so I suppose, Matt, we're stuck doing a
fancy wedding." She said, with a smirk.
"Doesn't have to be fancy or big to have
bridesmaids..." Matt said simply as he handed the pen to her. "As
long as when it's over with, you're Mrs. Hogan.. I'll survive. Not sure your
old man would attend this wedding either... or give you away, anyhow.."
"Ah,but you
don't know my family." Saffron replied, taking the pen. "Actually,
he's more likely to attend this one thin the last one...He certainly likes you
more then Landan." She added. "Would you take him for a moment,
Matt." She added, nodding to Dion.
Matt smirked softly. "Of course." he said simply,
grinning as he scooped Dion into his arms and out of Saffron's way. The boy
started to fuss at the move and opened his eyes to see Matt, then settled right
back down again. He looked up to find Harry watching him with an amused smirk
on his face. "What?" he asked with a mock scowl and Harry laughed
softly.
"Nothing.
nothing at all."
Saffron smirked faintly. "Dion seems to have taken to
Matt, rather quickly. He'd scream and fuss at the sight of Landan, so I imagine
the child psychiatrist will find that interesting." Saffron said, signing
the marriage license.
