DarkFall : Rescue
by Miss Frost

( After proof reading the first couple chapters of 'DarkFall', Miss Frost was inspired and wrote this touching piece to go with the story... enjoy :) )

Chaos glared at the door as the servent closed it behind them, leaving her alone in the large vast and dim lit library with it's stone walls and old wooden book cases, cramped full of ancient and antiquarian books and tomes. Her father had asked her to go to the library with the servent, while he dealt with his business with Abandon and that he'd come and collect her as soon as he was done. Chaos had begrudgingly agreed.

She turned from the door, to look about the room with it's high ceiling and tall shelves. The room was lit by odd lanterns, faerie glass balls, holding a flame inside of them, no danger to the books, but there weren't many and it gave the room an almost dungeon like feel.

She moved along an isle, looking at the spins of the books, but not really paying attention to them. Turning a corner, she found herself in a little nitch, were a small wooden table sat. And upon the table was an open book, and a single candle burning. The chair had been pushed back from the table, in what appeared to be haste and Chaos realized she might not have been alone in the library.

She approached the table, touching the pages of the book lightly as she inspected it and her eyebrow shot up. Lewis Carroll's 'Alice In Wonderland'...an odd choice for a fallen angel to read. Or indeed have in a library like this...

Her head snapped up as she heard movement further back in the library, a muffled sound, as if some one trying to stop something from falling. She moved that way, putting her self in a postion that the person trying to hide could not slip past her to the door with out her seeing and in all probability, stop them.

She approached another nitch further back in the library, this one dim, and no table. And as she approached in silence, a small face suddenly peered around the corner of the nitch, down the isle toward her, framed in vibrant red hair, with pale skin and large striking green eyes, full of fear. A beautiful child's face, even with the terrified expression, two inverted tear drops under each eye that seemed to highlight the spectacular green of those eyes. Chaos paused, head tilted to the side. Her first thought was outrage at the idea that Abandon kept children as slaves...She wondered if her father knew of this, and if something could be done...

There was a whimpered squeak of fear and the face vanished. Chaos regained her thoughts and moved forward, slowly. "I'm not going to hurt you..." She said out loud softly as she approached the nitch. There was no answer, and Chaos moved around the corner of the nitch. The child stared up at her, knees drawn up and arms wrapped around them. Chaos wasn't sure right away if it was a girl or a boy. Then she realized it was a boy, a very fair and pretty boy. A black leather collar incircling the child's neck, which he fingered the ring of nervously as he gazed up at her with those wide deep green eyes.

Chaos looked at the child, he was so small, and thin. At first she thought he was only about ten or eleven. "I wont hurt you." She repeated gently, before crouching before the child.

He drew back futher, making himself smaller, still staring at her. Then a small quivering voice answered her. "I wasn't doing anything...just reading..."

"So that was your copy of Alice In Wonderland..." She said softly with a soft smile.

He blinked, "Yus..." He whispered.

Chaos titled her head to the side in curiosity. "What's your name?" She asked. When he didn't answer her, she introduced herself. "My name is Clarice."
"Lexine..." He whispered.

"Lexine...what a unique name..." Chaos said gently, smiling again, then slowly, offered her hand. "Why don't you come out of there, Lexine, it must be awful cramped.

Lexine stared at her, eyes wide again, he looked from her hand to her face and back again. For a moment, Chaos thought he was going to draw back even further away from her, but after a moment, a tiny hand found it's way into hers. She stood slowly, helping the boy to his feet. She realized he was older then ten or eleven, but couldn't be by much. He was so tiny and petite. She could feel him trembling through his hand, and he was raggedly dressed.

She stepped back into the isle, into the light and he followed slowly, tentively. That's when the dim light fell on his bare arms and she saw the collection of scars crisscrossing about his arms and thought she caught sight of more on his back, where the ragged shirt didn't cover. She frowned, narrowing her eyes with a glare and Lexine whimpered, snatching back his hand. "Oh no, it's alright Lexine...it's just...all those scars...where did you get them?"

Lexine hastily tried to cover his arms, but knew it was useless. He didn't answer her questions and looked around wildly as if trying to find a way to escape. Chaos clenched a fist. She couldn't have this. This boy was obviously used...how terribly she had no idea yet, but she couldn't stand the idea of allowing him to remain in such conditions. "Did Abandon do this to you?" Chaos questioned.

Another whimper was her answer. "I...can't...the master will be furious...and it's not good when he's mad..." Lexine whimpered, not looking at her.

"Lexine...I can help you..." Chaos said softly, taking a step toward the boy. She was determined to help him.

Lexine shook his head furiously, still not looking at her. "No one can help me..." He whispered. "I need...to go...I've...I've got chores and they're not done, he'll be mad and...I have to be in his chambers soon..."

"What do you mean, his chambers?" Chaos asked, something twisting in her stomach.

Lexine looked up at her in confusion as if she should already know the answer to that, everyone in this place did... "I...I'm his favorite...I...I always sleep in his chambers..."

"With him?" Chaos asked, getting another confused look from Lexine. "Does he have sex with you?" She questioned, doing everything not to sound demanding or hard. The thought only enraged her more, this was a child!

"Yus...he always has...everyone knows that..." Lexine answered in a barely audible whisper, and suddenly he was skirting past her, faster then she imagine and down to the table with the book and candle. The candle he blew out quickly, scooping up the book fast, but gently and shutting it, before taking a moment to gently slip it back into it's spot on a near by shelf, before he was heading for the main door of the library.

Which opened just as he reached it and he cowered suddenly, almost dropping to the floor, but Lord Chaos stepped into the room, and paused, eyeing the boy. When he made no move toward him, Lexine was out of the room with out a word or looking back. Chaos watched him go, her gut twisting as her father approached.

"Ready to leave, my dear?" Lord Chaos asked watching her.

Chaos looked up at her father. "No." She answered resolutely.

Lord Chaos raised an eyebrow. "Surely you don't enjoy Abandon's company that much..." He said lightly.

"As a matter of fact, I'm tempted to go and try and kill the bastard." Chaos replied, crossing her arms.

Lord Chaos' eyebrow rose higher. "Is that so. And why is that, my dear?"

"That boy...did you not see him...he's covered in scars, scars Abandon's inflicted and and he rapes the boy...apparently every night. If I can't kill the bastard, I'm not leaving here with out that boy." Chaos stated flatly.

Lord Chaos chuckled softly and Chaos gave her father a dark look. "I suppose it's just as well." He said. "The boy doesn't need to be here anyway. The sooner he's away from Abandon, the better." He eyed his daughter. "BUT, if I help you set the boy free, Clarice, you must promise to take his care and protection on yourself...especially from Abandon."

"You don't even have to ask me, daddy, I'd do anything to protect the boy." Chaos replied, blinking at herself and her sudden resoluteness to protect a child she'd only just met. "But why is it so important to keep him away from Abandon?" Chaos questioned.

Lord Chaos leaned forward, his tone softer. "Young Lexine is the daughter of the seal." He answered softly.
Chaos blinked. "Then we'd best get him out of here, don't you think?" She replied, starting for the door. Lord Chaos chuckled and followed.

"Leave it to me...but Abandon will certianly not be happy." Lord Chaos said as they left the library. Chaos looked about the hall, for any sign of the red head, but there was no.

Lord Chaos led the way back to the main chamber, where Abandon was still sitting on his 'throne'. He eyed both of them as they entered. Chaos managed to keep from glaring coldly at the man, assuming a look of indifference, but inside she wanted nothing more then to rip him apart. "I was under the impression you were leaving, Lord Chaos." He was soft spoken, some one who didn't have to raise his voice to be heard.

Lord Chaos smiled coldly. "Another matter of business has been brought to my attention by my daughter." He answered. "You have a servant, Lexine."

"What about him? Has he displeased you? If so, he will be dealt with." Abandon looked slightly pleased at that idea.

Chaos sneered. "No, he wont." She said. Lord Chaos patted his hand.
"You will turn him over to me." Lord Chaos said calmly.
Abandon's silver eyes flashed. "No, I wont. He is my slave, my property."

"He's a child!" Chaos snapped.
"Hardly, he's seventeen, his mother died giving birth to him, HERE in my realm, that makes him mine." Abandon replied with a slightly cold tone.

"You WILL turn him over to me, Abandon, least you forget our bargain and what you owe me." Lord Chaos replied and his left hand become slowly engulfed in shadow.

Abandon eyed this. "You go to far, Lord Chaos..." He sneered coldly.

"Would you rather I retract my end?" Lord Chaos replied, knowing Abandon would cave.

Abandon glared. "Fine...you may take the boy...for now." He stated, before snapping his fingers. Another servent appeared, a young man of about nineteen or twenty with black hair and cold blue eyes. "Bring Lexine here." Abandon told him. The young man vanished with out a word. Abandon said nothing to them as they waited, all but ignoring them. Chaos glared dangerously at the man.

A few moments later, the young man returned, with Lexine in tow. Lexine had apparently been made to change, a long white gown like robe and he looked around fearfully, seeing Lord Chaos and his daughter, Lexine whimpered and cringed, but approached the dias, where Abandon sat watching him with mixture of obvious lust and anger. Lexine stopped at the foot of the throne and sank down, half cowering bow, half offering himself. Abandon stared down at him a moment with obviously pleasure, then he snarled, shot up from the throne and grabbed the boy by the hair.

Lexine made no sound, but the fear was obvious in his eyes.
Abandon dragged him roughly down the few steps, toward Lord Chaos and his daughter and threw the red head to their feet. "Take him. But you wont keep him for long. I'll have him back."

Abandon snarled, turning and heading for a side door out of the room.
Chaos leaned down and took Lexine gently by the shoulders, pulling him from the floor. Lexine whimpered, looking around in confusion. "It's alright Lexine... I told you I'd help you." Chaos said gently, and reached down, gently stroking the boy's hair as he trembled, staring up at her.
