The morning was dark, dreay, grey, and rainy. Nate
stood by the window, with a tumbler of scotch in one hand and an
evnvelop in another hand. He couldn't believe this had happened after
all this time. He grimaced as he heard a rustling in the background.
Taking a swallow of the liquior, he turned and looked at his bed.
Lexine was stretching under the comforter, looking his way curiously.
Nate looked back at him, just really looking at him. He still looked so
tired, and warn out, but he starting to look more like himself. The
light was slowly returning to his beautiful eyes.
"Did I wake ye?" Nate asked softly, stashing the envelop and coming back toward the bed.
Lexine
shook his head with another stretching. "Not really." He answered in
his soft voice. "Are you alright?" Lexine asked, tilting his head to
look at Nate.
"Yeah, jus' caught up in some thoughts." Nate
answered half truthfully, sitting on the bed. He set the tumbler on the
bedside table and leaned over Lexine slightly, bracing himself on one
arm. Lexine watched him putting the tumbler on the table and looked at
him.
"Something you'd like to talk about?" He asked.
Nate
sighed and looked at Lexine. The delicate red head never missed a beat,
One of the things Nate loved about him. "Jus' a letter from my cousin.
I'm gussin' me mum's been askin' when I'm gonna visit." Nate said. L
Lexine looked at him, stretching again like a cat. "Where is home for you?"
"Scotland, Glenfennin. Small place." Nate answered.
"So are you going to to visit?" Lexine asked softly.
Nate shrugged. "Maybe, I don't know righ' now. Wha bout ya, how ye feelin'?"
"Tired...I don't think I slept so well." He admited with a yawn.
"An' why not?" Nate asked, peering at him.
"I've
been having some strange dreams." Lexine admited, sitting up slightly,
only to have Nate wrap his arm around his waist and pull him onto his
lap.
"Wha' kind'a dreams?" Nate asked.
"I don't know.
There's a lot of green, and it's always as if I know the place, but
can't quiet put my finger on it. And there's some one calling my
name..." Lexine answered, snuggling against Nate,
"How long have ye been havin' this dream?" Nate asked.
"A few days, after that first night,,,in that house,,," Lexine answered while wrinkling his nose at the memory.
"The night ye almost died..." Nate cleared up.
"Oh
yus that was fun, don't want to do it again, not for a long time."
Lexine said with a touch of a smirk. Nate grinned, caught Lexine's chin
and kissed him softly.
"Agreed."
Lexine grinned,
watching Nate get up, taking the tumbler from the bedside table. He
headed over to the wet bar, sitting the glass down and picking up the
envelop. "Regardless o' wha' I do...I suppose I should go visit..."
Nate said, running his hand through his hair.
"What's stopping you?" Lexine asked, starting to crawl out of bed.
"I don't...since Michael died, I don't visit home tha' much." Nate answered.
Lexine sighed softly, stretching as he stood. "If you want to go visit, you should go."
"Maybe,
I've been thinkin' 'bout it all mornin'." Nate said, starting to turn
back around to Lexine. Lexine had started across the room, but half way
there, Lexine's luminious eyes widened with pain and he crumpled to the
floor before Nate could reach him, having fainted. "Lexi!" Nate scooped
up Lexine, looking him over. He was completely unconcious, but other
wise seemed fine.. At the same time, he head a knock on his front door.
"It's open, damn it!" Nate yelled, while still looking Lexine over.
Nate couldn't even detect any magic being used.
"Hey man, I was jus' wonderin'..."
Nate heard Eire starting that way and glanced up to see Eire come to a stop in the door way. "Whoa! Wha' happened?!"
"The
bloody fuckin' 'ell if I know!" Nate growled. He moved Lexine from the
floor while Eire shifted nervously. "Is Aiyla 'ere?" Nate questioned.
"In the kitchen, I think." Eire said.
"Go
and get her!" Nate ordered. Aiyla Meeks was the closet thing Choas
Incorrporated had to a doctor. She was also quiet talented in healing
magic. Eire said not a word, but left quickly to go in search of the
lime green haired temptress. It would be a surprise to find her with
out Sands, the two were nearing that fabled walked down the isle as far
as Eire was concerned. He didn't know who was worse, Aiyla and Sands,
Chaos and Auron, Rue and Puk, or himself and Xander. Eire snickered at
that, but put his mind back on focus. Course then there was Lexine and
Nate. Everyone in the building knew those two were to much in love with
each other to stay away. Eire wasn't sure Lexine had been home to his
own apartment since the boys had managed to escape that hell house. He
didn't know if it was because Nate wanted him cfloser, after Lexine had
nearly died, or if Lexine just didn't want to leave Nate. But Eire was
possitively sure, Nate had yet to Lexine how he felt about him.
"Eire, wha's up? Wha' are ya runnin' for?"
Eire
looked up, realizing he had been running and would have run right past
the kitchen if Aiyla hadn't called his name, He turned and saw Aiyla
and San ds in the kitchen. "There you are!" Eire said quicklu. "You
gotta come, Nate sent me to find you, it's Lex!"
Aiyla was
getting up from her chair, along with Sands. "Wha's wrong?!" Aiyla
asked as she started following Eire, Sands behind them
"I don't
know, I went in to find Nate picking Lex up off the floor and he was
unconcious." Eire explained quickly as they headed back down to Nate's
apartment. They heard Chaos' door open, but no one said anything,
hurrying on.
Aiyla was first through the door and headed for
the bedroom where Lexine was on the bed. Immediately Aiyla took over,
checking Lexine over. "Sheldon be a darling and go and get my bag from
the kitchen please." Aiyla said with out looking. Nate had stood back
to let her work, She pulled a pen light from her pocket and opened
Lexine eyes, checking his pupils. Sands vanished from the apartment
with out a word and appeared rather quickly with Aiyla's infamous black
bag.
Aiyla took it and opened it, digging inside of it for a
moment as she leaned over Lexine. "So wha's wrong?" Eire asked the
question on everyone's mind. Aiyla removed a small vial and cracked the
top off of it, before placing it under Lexine's nose.
"I'm not sure yet..." Aiyla answered calmly.
Lexine
came to with a gasp, snapping his eyes open and trying to knock the
vial out of Aiyla's hand. She caught it with ease with one hand, while
putting the other on Lexine's chest and holding him down. "Easy, Lex!"
She said sternly. She looked at him closely, frowning.
"Get it
away." Lexine gasped, pushing her hand with the vial away. Aiyla capped
the glass and dropped the vial back in her bag, then put a hand on
Lexine's forehead, before smoothing the hair away from his face.
"Alright sweetie." Aiyla said softly. "Are you alright?"
Lexine shook his head, trying to curl away from Aiyla. "What happened, Lexine?" Aiyla pressed.
"I
don't know..." Lexine answered in a whisper, eyes closed. Aiyla was
still looking at him with a frown. Then she ran a finger downward over
his brow between his eyes, and Lexine fell asleep with out another
word.
Aiyla got up, zipping up her bag. All three men were
looking at her and she started for Nate's front room, gesturing from
the follow her. Nate pulled the bedroom door closed a touch as Aiyla
turned around to face them. She looked at Sands and sighed. "I think
you were right, Sheldon."
Sands nodded, rubbing the back of his neck and sighed.
"Right 'bout what?" Eire asked, looking back and forth between them with a puzzled expression.
Aiyla turned to Eire and Nate. "Lexine has fae blood, strong fae blood." She told them. Then gestured to Sands to finish.
"He
must get it from his mother, but it's incredibly strong. And because
Lexine has never...been home, his fae blood is wearing him down. That
mixed with the curse, is slowly killing him..." Sands said from his
spot, shoving his hands in his pockets.
"Wha' ye mean, ne'er been home?" Nate asked softly, eyeing Sands.
"He's ne'er been t' Ter Nah Nog." Sands answered simply.
"Oh
o'course." Eire said with a gesture. "Puk told me this... Fae born
outside of the fae realm, have to visit Ter Nah Nog at least ONCE in
their life, or die. He said once Teliveer was so strict on that, over
the fae he'd bandished to this realm, that at one time, there were only
four fae in the mortal realm."
Sands nodded. "In most cases,
those fae bandished from the realm, they would find a way to bring the
new born child in to the realm, but Teliveer would ne'er openly kill an
innocent, although I hear, I was the expection to that rule." He had a
slightly crooked grin, that Eire matched.
"I thought ye had t' be full fae..." Nate remarked.
"There's
been a couple cases where it's been a half. Myself and Alandra
included. Lex's fae blood is so stronge, it easily matches a full
blooded fae's strength and a stronge fae at that." Sands answered.
"So right, Can't we jus' open a portal there?" Eire asked.
Sands snorted with a smirk. "Its not going to be that easy. There'll be a catch."
"How can we find out that catch?" Nate asked.
"I'll
ask my da'. In the mean time, make sure he conserves his energy.
Usually it's a slow processes, but with the curse, I'm sure it's
doubled." Sands said, turning, and as he turned from the group, taking
a step, he disappeared.
"I hate it when he does that. Usually
when we're arguing." Aiyla said, crossing her arms over her chest. Nate
smirked slightly, before looking back at the bedroom door. "And you
know it's not going to take him long. IT's a fae thing,
Aiyla
was right. In less then a few minutes, Sands appeared again. "Okay, so
this is what Da' has to say over this, concerning Lexine's fae blood
and he wont tell me a god damned thing until we actually GET to Ter Nah
Nog, for Lex's safety. Considering who Lex's mother was, there is only
ONE door between realms that Lexine can use. And it's either in
Scotland, or Ireland, meaning, you'd have t' wonder round until Lexine
feels the draw toward the door."
Nate silently cursed, then asked. "Any idea how long he's got?"
"Estimated,
again, considering both who his mother is, still have no fuckin' clue
but the way da' put it, must be damn important, and considering the
curse, I'll be safe a say, a few months..." Sands answered.
"Righ'." Nate said finally with a nod.
Eire
had turned toward the front door, hearing some one outside in the hall,
hesitating, and he knew who it was. "Xander's 'ere." He said simply to
Nate as he crossed the room to open the door. Xander was caught in the
moment of raising his fist to knock and blinked, looking at Eire. Eire
motioned him in with a wave and a grin, shutting the door behind him.
"Are there any ideas as t' the location of the door?" Nate asked Sands.
Sands shook his head. "Only Lex'll know where it is and that's by feeling."
"Anything that can be done to...slow it down?" Aiyla asked.
"Nothin'
more then slowing down the curse. But Da did say...t' er...beware of
some of Teliveer's hench men, looking for Lex...I'm gonna head back
over there, since Alandra's got Lily Rose and see if I can't worm the
details out of dear father." Sands said, pulled Aiyla close a moment
and kissing her. "Stay outta trouble, darlin'" He told her before
disappearing.
Aiyla glanced at Nate who was staring at Sands's
spot with a raised eyebrow. She shrugged and seemed to read his mind,
saying. "He knows he doesn't have to, but he wan'ts to." She said
softly. Nate glanced at her then nodded. He glanced at Eire and Xander,
Eire was filling his lover in on what had happened. Xander looked
slightly distrubbed by the turn of events. Nate sighed, shaking his
slightly, considering the turn of events as well.
"Guess I'll be visitin' home af'er all." He muttered
"Lexine'll
probably sleep the rest of the morning." Aiyla said softly. "I'll hang
around until Sands gets back, just incase." She told Nate.
Nate
nodded. "Thanks babe...I've got t' go chat with Chaos...if she's 'ere."
He headed for the door. Aiyla, Xander and Eire watched him go.
"Boy, this is bothering him an awful lot." Aiyla said as Nate left the apartment.
Eire looked at her. "Why wouldn't...We all know he loves Lex..."
Aiyla smirked. "But does he know it?"
"Oh he will." Xander muttered softly. Eire looked at him and Xander smirked, getting one from Eire in reply.
*** Nate
knocked on Chaos' door and waited. Thankfully, a moment later, she
opened it up. "What's up?" She asked, looking him over and could see
clearly something was bothering him. "Everything okay?" She asked a bit
more softly.
"Not really. Gotta chat..." Nate answered.
Chaos opened her door wider, admitting him in and Nate stepped into her apartment. "Alright, what's up?" She asked.
"Did
you know Lexine has fae blood?" Nate asked. Chaos raised an eyebrow.
"Appearently he is." Nate went on to tell her the whole deal.
"Then
I suggest Lex take a vacation." Chaos said after Nate had finished, but
she looked troubled. "Is that all?" She asked softly.
"I got a
letter from Duncan...mum's been askin' where I am and when I'm gonna
visit." Nate replied, messing with something on a near by table.
"Well,
here's your chance to visit. I'd perfer it, if you went with Lex...not
just considering...what you two have, but when it comes to Lexine, I
don't really trust his safety with any one other then you, and Eire as
well, and he should probably go. Which means Xander will as well." She
said, crossing her arms.
"This have any thing t' do with Auron?" Nate asked casuaully.
Chaos eyed him. "It might, Nate. But that's not the important thing here."
"Yer righ' o' course." Nate said with a nod, then sighed. "Lords I don't wanna go home righ' now..."
"Look at it this way, least you'll have Lex and Eire there with you..." Chaos put in.
"A plus to be sure." Nate answered dryly, though Chaos knew it was sincenre.
"I
suggest making arrangments today, so you can leave in the next day or
so." Chaos added. Nate nodded. "And Nate, try not to let it get to
you." She said softly. Nate nodded, but snorted a soft laugh.
"I'll try."
*** When
he got back to his apartment, Xander and Eire were in the kitchen.
Aiyla was reading on the couch. "Still sleeping?" Nate asked her. Aiyla
nodded.
"Peacefully I might add." She said with a slight smile.
"Alright."
Nate answered, before heading into the kitchen. "Xander, I need t'
speak to Eire alone a moment." He said to the ice elemental who was
leaning against Eire against the counter.
"Sure." Xander answered simply, and left the room.
Once
he was gone, Nate turned to Eire and said softly. "I got a letter from
Duncan. Mum's been askin' fer me...I owe 'er a visit."
Eire winced. "Well, you go with Lexine to Scottland and Ireland, you can use the visit as a cover."
"I
planned on it, but it's naught jus' me goin'." Nate told Eire. "Chaos
wants us both goin' with Lexi. Xander's free t' come along as well."
"Oo, early vacation." Eire said with a slight grin, then frowned.
"Wha?" Nate asked.
"I haven't been home t' Ireland since before Ruby died." Eire answered softly, puffing a lock of hair out of his face.
"We both haven't been home in years, Eir." Nate replied. "It'll be interestin' fer the both o' us."
"Yeah..." Eire muttered with a sigh.
*** Nate
made the arrangments for the flight, then called Duncan. He waited for
the international call to be completed, then heard a scottish brouge
ask. "'Ello?"
"Dunc? It's Nathaniel." Nate answered, leaning his back against the kitchen door frame with the phone, arms crossed.
"I see ye got me letter then." Duncan answered with a touch of humor.
"Yeah, I got it...tell mum...I'll be home fer 'couple days next week."
There was a pause, then Duncan asked. "Yer comin' home?"
"Yea," Nate answered. "Oh, I'll be coming with a pair of friends an'...me lover."
There was another long pause, then, "Ye finally found some one...there's a shock."
Nate snorted. "Yea, well, I'm intitled."
"No one said ye wasn't it..." Duncan answered. "I'll tell Aunt Helena." He added. "And we'll see ye when ye get 'ere."
"Alright Dunc...I'll let ye go fer now."
"Sure thing, boy'o. Good t' 'ear from ye and I look forward t' seein' ya in person."
"The same." Nate said with a slight smile, before hanging up the phone.
"Wasn't so hard, was it?" Eire asked from the counter he was sitting on.
"Oh no, tha' was the easy part." Nate answered. "Hard part's goin' home...and explainin' Lexi..."
"I'm sure we'll think of something." Eire replied.
"Is it going t' be a problem, that he's not a girl?" ander asked, peeking around the corner.
"Could be." Nate anwsered him, not caring that Xander had been evesdroping.
"So
don't say he isn't. Lex is so feminine looking, he gets away with
looking like your girlfriend, and I've noticed jealous guys out there."
Xander grinned slightly. "'Cause you know, when Lex dolls up, he can be
a knock out."
Nate smirked sligjhtly, knowing Xander was telling the truth, "It could work, but...we'll see how things go."
*** Lexine
woke up again sometime around two pm. Eire and Xander had left to go
packing, as their flight left the next morning. Lexine wandered into
the living room from the bed, his sleep shirt hanging off his shoulder
as he rubbed his eyes. He looked like a hand me down, worn out and
exhausted. Nate was making some final arrangments as he looked up.
"Thank you." He told the person on the other end, before hanging up.
"How are ye feelin'?"
"Very tired." Lexine answered softly,
coming over to the couch Nate was sitting on. He climbed on to it, and
snuggled against Nate, making himself smaller. Nate wrapped a
protective arm around him, and Lexine snuggled closer.
"Listen dollface, we've got t' go on a bit of a trip." Nate said softly, stroking Lexine's shoulder.
He turned his head, looking up at Nate quizzically.
"Did ye know ye have fae blood?" Nate asked the delicate redhead.
"I
don't...my father is elemenatal, my mother is..." Lexine frowned,
trailing off, then swore softly. "I don't know WHAT my mother was."
"Appearently
she was fae. Because ye have fae blood. Sands confirmed it this
afternoon, after ye passed out." He told Lexine about what Sands and
Aiyla had to come to the conclusion of. Lexine frowned, making himself
smaller against Nate. "It may explain those dreams ye've havin' too."
He added.
"Maybe." Lexine agreed softly.
"Somethin' else," Nate said softly. "We'll start in Scotland..from me home...I figure we can use the visit as a cover..."
"So you're going to visit your mum?" Lexine answered softly.
"Yeah. But baby doll, she might not take to the fact of you an' I.." Nate said softly, not looking at Lexine.
"How long will we be there?" Lexine asked softly.
"A few days."
"Then just tell 'em I'm your girlfriend...I can play the part." Lexine answered still just as softly.
Nate looked down at him. "Are ye sure?"
Lexine
nodded, though he looked slightly depressed. Nate studied him a moment,
then said. "Ye should get some more rest. Our flight leaves in the
mornin'. Eire and Xander are goin' with us. "
"At least we
have back up then." Lexine answered with a slight grin. Nate smiled
slightly himself, glad to see Lexine's sarcastic humor wasn't entirely
lost.
"At least. Are ye hungry?"
Lexine shook his head. "Just tired if anything." He answered, snuggling even more against Nate.
"Ye should eat somethin'." Nate said, wrapping his other arm around Lexine.
"Maybe
later." Lexine said with a yawn, closing his eyes. Nate held him,
watching him fall back asleep, while stroking his hair. He sighed and
looked toward the window. He wasn't about to loose Lexine. Not after
everything they'd been through. He loved Lexine, dearly and knew he
should tell his beautiful lover this, he didn't know why he hadn't yet.
It was one of the things that had been bothering him. Lexine deserved
it. He hadn't asked anything of Nate since they'd gotten together. The
only thing Nate wanted to do was love Lexine. Lexine had come to mean
so much to him. He continued to hold Lexine as he slept, before moving
and scooping up Lexine, taking him back to the bedroom and putting him
to bed there. Then Nate set about packing a bag for both him and
Lexine. In regards to what his lover had said, he packed as much of
Lexine's more feminine clothes, that he had around the building for
quick changes. He packed another smaller bag of weapons and was glad it
was a privet jet. A favor called into a friend. It was easier if they
had to leave quickly.
The next morning was still grey and rainy. The four
of them stood under an arch at the airport, watching a privet jet land.
Lexine stood next to Nate, shivering, despite the heavy sweater over a
t-shirt and jeans. Nate watched them from the corner of his eye, then
took of his coat, sitting it over Lexine's shoulders. Lexine turned his
gaze thankfully up, before snuggling into the jacket. Xander was
leaning against Eire, who was leaned up against a pole.
The
jet landed smoothly and they waited as it taxied across the run way
toward them before coming to a stop. The hatch was opened and a short
stair case was rolled up against it. Nate took a deep breath, placed
and hand on the small of Lexine's back and escorted him to the plane
with Eire and Xander following. They boarded the plane and the piolet
came out of the cockpit to speak quietly with Nate. "I don't really
expect ya to hang around, I'm not expecting us to have to leave in such
a hurry, But thanks fer doin' this anyway, Sam."
The piolet smirked. "Conisder this as my debt paid."
"Good
with me." Nate smirked himself before heading to the seat next to
Lexine as Sam went back into the cockpit to prepare for take off. Eire
was fidgetting in his seat.
"I hate`planes." The silver haired wolfwere said between clenched teeth. Xander smirked and patted his thigh.
*** It
was a realtively smooth flight. Lexine slept through most of it. The
Scottish airport was rainy however and they had to hurry to get a taxi.
Nate gave the driver directions to an inn as they all squeezed into the
back seat. Lexine practically ended up on Nate's lap, from the lack of
room, but didn't complain.
The inn was fancy, but completely
scottish. Nate had booked two rooms. They weren't spacious, but they
were definitely comfortable. After settling in, the group went down to
the common room to have a drink. They got a booth in the far corner by
a window and Nate went up to the bar to order a round of pints. Lexine
sat in the far corner of the booth, staring out the window in the
settling night, watching the rain roll down the thick glass.
"Ya alright?" Eire asked him softly.
Lexine
didn't look his way, but nodded. "Yeah. Just jet lagged." He said
softly. Eire smirked slightly, knowing it was a lie, but why call
Lexine on it. Nate returned with four pints and sat them on the table,
slidding into the booth next to Lexine.
"I'll buy the next round." Eire said cheerfully, taking his pint.
"If
yer even still sober enough t' remember the offer." Nate replied with a
smirk as he took a drink of his own pint. Lexine was still staring out
the window and he lit a cigarette, leaving his pint untouched. Nate
spoke softly to him. "Anything?"
Lexine shook his head. "It's like I want to go home so bad, but know I can't.."
"We'll find the door." Xander said from his spot.
"I don't that. But sorthing in me wants to ask, when." Lexine replied softly, taking a long drag.
"We'll jus' have t' give it time. Either Duncan or Conner will be here tomorrow to pick us up..." Nate said.
"oo, Conner, now there's a piece of work..." Eire said with a roll of his eyes.
"Yeah. So lets keep our fingers crossed that it's Duncan." Nate replied.
*** They
only had a couple of pints. Lexine had one, all together. After Eire,
Xander and Nate had nothing left to talk about, they agreed to call it
a night. Xander and Eire were going to step outside for some air, or
make out time no doubt, while Nate walked with Lexine up to their room.
Lexine was quiet, but he was staying close to Nate. "Ye've been
quiet...tired?" Nate asked softly as he unlocked their door.
"A little, mostly I've just been tryin' to figure things out." Lexine admitted.
"Wha'
things?" They stepped inside the room and Nate closed the door, locking
it. He ran a finger over the seam of the door, before looking at Lexine
who was looking about the room.
"My mum really. I don't know
anything about her. Dad's never told me anything. I don't think he's
even told Saffron anything..." Lexine answered, moving toward the fire
place, which was all sat for a fire. Nate watched him lean toward the
logs and run a finger down one. As he did, fire errupted in the place
Lexine had touched the wood and in a moment, there was a healthy fire
roaring behind the grate.
"Maybe while we're lookin' fer the
door, we'll find somethin' out." Nate said, as Lexine moved toward the
bed, shedding his coat and pulling off the sweater. He was weraing a
short black and red crop top and ratty blue jeans, but he still looked
like a girl. Nate noticed he'd taken the charm off his belly button
ring as Lexine turned back to face him.
"Maybe." He replied, meeting Nate's gaze as Nate looked up into his eyes.
As
with so many times more, Nate found himself thinking, as he looked the
gorgeous creature infront of him over, Ye should've been a girl, baby
doll. He'd never said it out loud, but he thought it often. Still, he
didn't love Lexine any less. Lexine stood there looking at him, as if
waiting for him to come to him and Nate didn't disappointed, crossing
the room and tossing his jacket and room key in a chair near by as he
closed the distance between him and Lexine. He reached out and pulled
Lexine to him, a hand on his waist and kissed him possessievly.
Lexine
wrapped his arms around Nate's neck as Nate kissed him. Nate's tongue
teased Lexine's full lips open and he tantilized Lexine's tongue with
his own. He ran a hand under the hem of Lexine's shirt and up his back,
pulling him closer as the kiss deepened. His other hand slid his
fingers through Lexine's hair. His kisses trailed from Lexine's lips,
to his neck as he moved his other hand to under Lexine's shirt. He
pulled back long enough to pull the shirt over his head and toss it
away, before kissing Lexine again.
Lexine was already pulling
out Nate's shirt from his jeans, sliding his hands under, and up over
Nate's chest as he kissed him back. Nate ran his fingers up Lexine's
sides, grinning against the kiss as he felt Lexine squirm from being
ticklish. He pulled back reluctantly as Lexine tugged at his shirt,
waiting it off and Nate helped him pulled it over his head. He rested
his hands on Lexine's hips, turning them so Nate was leaning against
the bed. He leaned back, collasping on top of the sturdy bed and pulled
Lexine down with him.
Lexine straddled his lap and rested each
hand above Nate's shoulders, kissing him teasingly, avoiding Nate's
attempts to capture his tongue. Nate pulled back, Lexine's forehead
resting against his and gave the fragile fire elemental a mocking look.
"Ye wicked doll, you." Nate growled huskily. Lexine gave him that
wicked cheese cake of a grin and slid his hand down ward over Nate's
chest. While holding Nate's gaze, he ran his nails over Nate's naval,
causing Nate to inhale sharply. Nate slid his arms around Lexine's
waist and pulled him down against him, rolling over, kissing him deeply.
**** "Its
not as cold as I thought it would be." Xander said softly as they
walked along the dark lane away from inn. Eire was holding his hand and
keeping Xander close. IT was a touch frosty but not unbearable. However
there was a hint of rain on the air, which Eire breathed in deeply. It
was a sweet air, almost close to his beloved Ireland's. He'd been to
Scottland a few times, both with Nate and Chaos, and he supposed it
reminded him of Ireland. But Ireland was his beloved Ireland.
"Don't relax yet." Eire whispered in Xander's ear. "The weather can turn around on you. It's fickle."
"Most
women are." Xander answered, inclining his head toward Eire, eyes on
the lane. Eire nipped playfully at Xander's ear and Xander grinned.
"Think there's any chance of Lex finding the door soon?" He asked Eire.
Eire shrugged. "Who knows. Anything t' do with the fae is
usually fickle too." Xander snickered. They stopped under the shadows
of a tall large tree and Eire leaned up against it, Wrapping his arms
around Xander's waist and pulling him close, kissing him playfully.
Xander smirked behind the kisses and toyed with Eire back, playing the
tip of his tongue over Eire's lips. Eire wrapped his arms tighter
around Xander, pulling him closer still and captured Xander's tongue,
kissing him deeply. Xander stopped fidgetting and melted into the kiss,
leaning against Eire, his arms around Eire's neck.
"Uh-hmm." Some one cleared their throat.
Xander
snapped away wide eyed and slightly blushed and Eire turned to look at
the figure leaning his shoulder against the side of the tree. He was
lowering a fist from his mouth, and rested his hands clasped together
in front of him, his legs crossed at the ankles. He was grinning at the
pair with sharp canines and sufflerous colored eyes. They were almost
the only thing one could see in the darkness.
"I'm sorry, did I interrupt? I could have stayed a horse...bit one of you..." Puk Thorton said, still grinning.
"Isn't Scottland a bit far from Dublin?" Eire asked with a slightly annoyed tone.
"Oh no, just a hop, skip and a jump, mate." Puk replied, grinning more.
"How long were ya standin' there, Puk?" Xander asked, cocking his head to the side.
"Oh not long." Puk said earnestly. "I'd ne'er wanna interupt on yer privet time, o'course."
"Of course." Xander agreed with out conviction. Puk just continued to grin.
"So wha' are ye doin' here, Puk, Not just playin' games with farmers, are ya?" Eire asked.
"Oh
no, I'm workin' boys. Estehl sent me over, t' be keepin' an eye on ye
four. Said there might be a couple o' Teliveer's nasties' runnin'
round. And he was righ'. Gave a Dullhan a hell o' hunt, not t' long
ago. So if I were ye, I wouldn't be stayin' on the road t' much."
"So wha' bout Rue?" Eire asked.
"Oh,
she knows I'm 'ere." Puk said, grinning again. "She told me t' make
sure Lexine comes outta this in one piece or she'll hurt me...an' well
ye know she means it when she says she'll hurt ya." Puk grinned
sheepishly.
"Aye, that she does." Eire agreed, "So do ya know wha's goin' on then?"
"Oh yes. Estehl already told me."
Xander
shuddered despite himself. Puks expressions could be so frightening
when you though it about it. It was as if he actually ENJOYED being
involved in these kind of things. But Eire was looking at the pooka
amused. Xander frowned, narrowing his eyes on Puk, who was lounging
against the tree now with both hands behind his head.
"So wha', chu gonna hang 'round?" Eire asked.
"Oh, in the shadows. Not openly...it wouldn't as fun." Puk said, grinning again.
"I
bet." Eire rolled his eyes, he glanced at Xander who was standing there
looking so unamused, Eire was forced to grin. He caught Xander's eye
and gave him a pouty questioning look, that slowly melted Xander's
frown.
Puk was watching them with interest. "I don't wanna
impose any more, but I figured ye needed t' know I was 'round. Do let
Nathenial know." Puk headed past the two.
"We will." Eire
said, glancing at him as Puk walked on. He watched as the pooka
suddenly began a black horse with a wild mane. He paused, looking over
his shoulder at them, pawed at the ground and whinnied in far well and
took off at a gallop, throwing back his head gleefully. "Pookas are so
strange." Eire remarked, shaking his head.
"Yeah, so..." Xander muttered.
"Something wrong, darlin'?" Eire asked, amused.
"He was leering all over you." Xander replied, giving Eire a look.
"I
know. So? I wasn't looking at him that way. I was only amused." Eire
replied, playfully pulling Xander back toward him. "Only one I'm
looking that way at is you." He said softly. Xander smiled softly,
letting Eire pull him to him.
"We should get back to the inn."
Xander said softly. Eire raised an eyebrow. "No seriously...Puk said
there were nasties about, we don't wanna get caught up with one..."
"I suppose yer right." Eire said with a mock sigh. Sliding an arm around Xander's waist, they started back toward the Inn.
*** The
weather the next morning, proved to be as Eire predicted. Snow was
falling, slowly growing in size as the morning grew later. Nate let
Lexine sleep, covering the red head up as he moved about the room.
Making sure the door was secure, he went next door to Eire and Xander's
room, knocking. Eire answered the door, rubbing his eyes, his hair
moosed to all ends, sticking up at all ends. "Mornin' alread?" Eire
asked with a yawn.
"Aye. Get Xander up. One o' them'll be 'ere soon." Nate said, eyein' Eire with humor. "Long night?"
"Nah, we went walkin' really. Met up with Puk...Estehl Errin's got him hangin' around for help." Eire told Nate quietly.
Nate raised an eyebrow. "Estehl's always keepin' somethin' back. I hope t' fuck Jeff gets somethin' out of him."
"He will." Eire said seriously, leaning on the door frame. "I've got a good feelin' he will." Eire added.
"An' how d'ya know that?" Nate asked.
"It's a fae thing, mate." Eire said with a grin. "Righ', see ya in a few."
Nate nodded and headed down stares to check in with the inn owner.
*** Lexine
hadn't been as asleep as Nate had thought. He watched the scotsman
leave the room, before stretching under the blanket and looking about
the room with a yawn. He felt so worn out. Not so much tired as just
worn out. Getting gingerly out of the bed, he made his way over to wear
his suitcase was, rooted around in it a few moments, then found the
clothes he was looking for, along with a smaller black bag These he
took with him to the bathroom. Sitting the bag on the counter before
the half full mirror, Lexine pulled off his sleep shirt and pulled on a
delicate white sweater with a high collar. Then he pulled on a long
black mole skin skirt.
Not liking the idea of actually wearing
a skirt, he pulled on under it a pair of satin bloomers. Now he didn't
feel so ridikulous. He slipped on a pair of flat black sueade shoes and
took a brush out of the black bag. After finishing that, he looked at
his reflection a moment, then at the black bag, trying to decide if the
inverted tear drop tattoos were to much. Figuring that they probably
were and that he had told Nate he'd play the part of his girlfriend for
the few days that they were here, he took out the nessasery makeup and
set about doing his make up.
He used concealer under the eyes
and was thankful for Tizzy's instructions once before on how to
succesfully apply makeup. Course Candy's lessons helped to. He
successfully covered the tattoos, did his eyeliner much lighter then
usually and did eyeshadow and lipgloss. Deciding he couldn't look any
more like a good girl, he packed up the make up and took the black bag
and other clothes back to his suit case, packing them up. He moved
about the room, packing up anything left around. Then he found his
cigarettes and moved over to the window seat, cracking the window open,
and curled up on the corner of the bench, lighting a cigarette.
He
was still there when Nate came in. Nate stopped as he closed the door,
looking Lexine over. "'Ello gorgeous. Did I get the wrong room?" Nate
asked huskily. But at least he got a soft smile out of Lexine. He
crossed the room over to the windowseat, glancing around as he went.
"Ye've picked up I see."
"I figured it'd be a good idea." Lexine replied softly, watching Nate and flicking his ashes out the window crack.
Nate
came to lean up against the frame of the window, beside Lexine and
looked down at him. "Ya know it's snowin', right?" He reached out and
stroked Lexine's cheek, coaxing Lexine to look at him.
"I know." Lexine answered softly. "I was just having a cigarette." He replied.
Nate
leaned down and stroked Lexine's cheek. He kissed Lexine softly,
sliding his fingers through his hair. "Duncan's on his way, should be
'er any time. I'm gonna pop next door and make sure the other two are
up..." Nate said softly.
Lexine smiled slightly, "It's not as if I'm going anywhere." He whispered back, kissing Nate in return, gently.
"I
didn't think you were." Nate replied, before kissing Lexine a bit more
deeply. He smirked slightly as he drew back. "Cherry lipgloss?" Lexine
smiled a touch coy. Nate ran his finger over Lexine's lips before
turning to head for the door. He stopped at it, looking back at Lexine
and said. "Xander was right...you're a knock out when you doll up." He
winked at Lexine and left the room, leaving the alluring redhead to
chuckle softly.
Nate went next door and knocked. Xander
answered and Nate could see Eire shoving things in his bag. "Duncan
will be 'ere any time."
"We 'ear ya." Eire called from his
spot, pausing to look around to see if he'd missed anything. Nate shook
his head, nodded to Xander and went back to his and Lexine's room.
Lexine
had everything packed and ready to go and was just braiding his hair,
when Nate walked in. He stood for a long moment, watching Lexine who
was still perched on the window seat, braiding his hair. Everything
little thing Lexine did was so delicate, so sensual. Even the way he
smoked. Nate watched him finish off the braid, laying it over his
shoulder and turn to look up at Nate. Nate wondered why he hadn't
realized Lexine had fae blood in him before, as beauitful as he looked.
Despite everything that had happened to Lexine, he still retained an
innocence that captivated Nate. There was a desperet need in Lexine to
trust some one. To be loved. But it was not a need Lexine displayed
openly, unless one knew where to look. He didn't get close to people,
and Nate supposed it was because he'd been so hurt in the past. He'd
been born into slavery, used from the age he could be used from. He'd
been worked, beat and abused in all possible ways. From the age of
thirteen until he was 20, he'd been Abandon's bedroom toy.
Rowen
had been the first friend Lexine had ever had,a nd then more. But Rowen
had toyed with Lexines affections and when Rowen had died the first
time, it had nearly destroyed Lexine. They'd all watched what had
happened to Lexine when it was revealed Rowen was still alive. Those
events had kept Lexine only a tip toed step from a complete nervous
breakdown and things were still that way. Rowen had escaped, but not
with out damage. A new scar on his face from Lexine and his chest from
Nate, not to mention the magical damage Nate had inflicted on the
bastard. Saffron's death before that had been a hard blow on Lexine,
everyone knew he blamed himself, even if it hadn't been his fault.
Auron had even told him, it hadn't been Lexine's fault. Nate did know
how he felt there. He supposed it was one of the reasons he'd come to
love Lexine.
Then the events in the haunted house, and now
this. Nate wasn't sure just how much sanity Lexine had left. But the
problem was, no matter what was thrown at Lexine, he wouldn't as for
help. he took everything upon himself, with out complaint. He'd been
hurt so much, he couldn't trust any one enough to as for help. Nate
knew a large part of the problem was Lexine's looks. As if proving Nate
right, now, Lexine had crossed his ankles and had his hands resting in
his lap. It wasn't that Lexine TRIED to be so femine, it was just
simply his nature, it had been breed into him. To trust, Lexine needed
some one who understood that, and still loved him. Which Nate did. It
wasn't that Lexine couldn't fight, he was a damn good street fighter
and his fire control was unmatched. He could severally kick your ass if
so inclined.
There was so much about Lexine that Nate loved
and it was still a mystery to him, why he had avoided telling Lexine
any of this. Every time the moment had been right for those three
words, Nate had managed to avoid them in some way and he didn't know
why. Nate wasn't ashamed of being with Lexine, And his physical
attraction to Lexine only grew every time the fragile fire ball turned
those luminous green eyes toward him. That innocent questioning look
Lexine could achieve drove Nate abosutely crazy and when Lexine was
feeling inclined to be coy, it only made Nate drag him off to some
where private. Lexine could be quiet the seductress if he truely
wanted.
Nate watched Lexine tilt his head to the side, giving
Nate an inquiring gaze. "Nothin' baby doll." Nate replied with a grin,
covering his thoughts.
"Doesn't seem that way to me." Lexine
replied softly. Nate could see the curse was wearing him down. Though
his eyes were warm, they looked tired and lost. Nate came across the
room slowly, and sat down on the window seat next to Lexine.
He
reached over, brushing a strand of hair back from Lexine's face, gently
tucking it behind his ear. "Yer beautiful, ye know that?" He asked the
fire elemental softly.
Lexine frowned slightly, looking up at him. "I hear that alot, ya know. Mostly from drunk old men."
Nate
leaned forward, and racked his lips over Lexine's softly, inclining his
head to kiss Lexine's ear. He whisperedsoftly. "They didn't mean it
like I do." He felt Lexine caress his cheek with open fingers. He
turned his head slightly and kissed the palm of his hand. He wrapped
his arms around Lexine's waist, drawing him closer, and nuzzled his
neck as Lexine slid his arm around Nate's neck. "Ye are beautiful,
Lexi." Nate whispered.
Lexine smiled softly and whispered.
"Listen t' you and that silver tounge." He snuggled against Nate, his
head tucked under Nate's chin. Nate held him protectively, stroking
Lexine's hair.
"Lexine, I l-"
The door banged open,
Lexine started against Nate, looking up with wide eyes. Nate turned a
dark gaze on who ever had barged in, just when he'd had a chance to
tell Lexine how he felt and saw Eire standing in the door way talking
to some one. "It's not like they were doin' anything..."
"Ain't
ye glad of that." Nate growled out loud, getting Eire's attention and
saw a tall, dark haired and handsome man behind Eire, Some one he knew
well. He stood as the two entered the room, holding Lexine's hand
beside him. Lexine remained seated. Nate was forced to grin as the man
came in. "Yer timin' hasn't improved, Duncan."
"Are we interruptin'?" Duncan asked with a slight handsome grin, glancing at Lexine.
"Oh...no." Lexine answered softly, a blush creeping into his cheeks. Eire was standing there grinning.
"I take it ye remember Eire?" Nate asked, gesturing to the silver haired wolf were.
"Who
could forget 'em?" Duncan asked with a grin toward Eire, who just
grinned in return. "And he introduced me t' the two of yers friend,
Xander. Quiet that one."
"Xander quiet? Hell jus' froze over." Nate remarked. Eire grinned more, trying to keep from snickering.
"Dunc, allow me t' introduce me..." He glanced at Lexine, then said, "girlfrined, Lexine. Lexi, me cousin Duncan."
"The decent one." Duncan replied, offering his hand. Lexine took it and they shook hands.
"Pleasure to meet you." Lexine replied softly.
"Pleasure's
all mine, lass." Duncan replied with a grin. Nate gave him a look and
Duncan smiled sheepishly. "We can leave when ever yer ready."
"Alright, Eire, help me load the bags." Nate said, thumping Eire in the shoulder.
"Right."
Eire grabbed Lexine's suitcase as Nate grabbed the other two. They took
the bags from the room, leaving Lexine and Duncan alone.
"So..."
Duncan said, rather then let a silence settle. Lexine was trying to get
his lighter to work, to light a cigarette. Duncan removed his own from
his pocket and flipped it open, being a gentleman and offering Lexine a
light. Lexine accepted it with a soft thank you. "How did ye and Nate
meet?"
"Through a friend, and then I started working for Chaos." Lexine answered softly, taking a delicate drag.
"Ah yes, the Lady Chaos. A right fine lady that one." Duncan said with a smile. "You're an elemental?"
Lexine blinked, surprised. And wondered just what else Duncan had guessed. "Yes...how did you know."
"Me magic's always centered more around the elemants than Nate's. After awhile, it becomes a second nature t' be able t' tell."
"I'm a fire elemental." Lexine confessed.
"Wouldn't expect anything less from an Irish lass." Duncan said with a grin.
"Oh well, I'm only half Irish...my father is French."
"Ah, but ye have Irish written all over ya." Duncan said, still grinning.
Lexine smiled back, but was glad to see Xander appear in the door.
"Feelin' any better, Lex?" Xander asked, glancing at Duncan.
"A bit. Thanks."
"I sincerly hope yer not under the weather." Duncan said upon hearing this.
"Oh, no, just jet lag." Lexine lied, unsure what else to say.
Nate and Eire appeared then. "Packed and ready t' go." Nate said, his hands in his pockets.
"Righ'"
Duncan said with a nod. "I gotta warn ya though. Helena's in a right
mood and Conner's hangin' round." He glanced pointedly at Lexine,
though the red head didn't see it. Nate frowned, but nodded. "Shall we
go then?" Duncan asked.
"Yeah." Nate answered. He held out a
hand to Lexine, who took it and Nate pulled him to his feet, grabbing
his coat from the chair near by. Duncan couldn't help but smirk as he
watched Nate helping Lexine into his coat. Even Eire and Xander seemed
amused by it. They reached the manor by late evening. The snow had
gotten heavier and everything was blanketed. Lexine had spent most of
the trip staring out the window, leaning up against Nate. The other
four had talked about everything, from nasties they'd faced, to
hobbies. Duncan hadn't asked any questions of Lexine. And Lexine looked
down right exhausted by the time they'd gotten to their desitnation.
"With luck, ye can get t' yer rooms with out bein' caught up in things." Duncan said as they got out.
"So wha's the problem?" Nate asked.
"The
usual, family politics, ye know how Conner's side of the family is. One
of the reasons Helena's been so addiment for ye t' visit is t' shut
them up and let 'em know yer still in the will and bound t' get it
all." Duncan said with a sigh. "Even I haven't been able to shut the
fucker up."
Nate sighed, pushed back his hat and ran a hand over his face. "Bloody brilliant, jus' wha' I need."
"Relax,
things should ease down with the four o' ye around..." Duncan glanced
at Lexine. "'Specially considerin' ye brought yer lass with ya."
"Yea,
but ye also know Conner as well as I do." Nate replied with a pointed
look. Duncan just shrugged. He helped Nate and Eire get the bags and
take them inside.
Lexine looked about the spacious greeting
hall, with his black and white tiled floor and large grand stair case.
He hadn't realized Nate's family was so endowed. He wondered if
Michael's death was the only reason Nate was so relucant to visit. Nate
was standing a few feet infront of him, slowly looking about the
greeting hall as well. Lexine reached out, touching his arm. Nate
turned his head, looking at Lexine, then slid a hand onto Lexine's
waist, pulling him to him. "Welcome t' Hawkscliff Manor...me home." He
said softly, as Lexine leaned against him. Lexine opened his mouth to
reply, but a woman's voice beat him to it.
"Nathaniel! Me son!"
Lexine
looked over Nate's shoulder as he turned toward the stair case, to see
a woman with fading copper colored hair coming down the stair case. She
was still an attractive woman for her again and Lexine could detact and
air of powerful magic from her. She had Nate's crisp and haunting eyes.
Nate let go of Lexine slowly and approached the woman as she
stopped on the bottom stair. "'Ello mum...I'm home." He said softly.
The
woman opened her arms to him with a smile and Nate hugged her. She
hugged him back, and seemed a moment relcutant to let go but did after
a moment. "Friends?" She asked him curious, glancing past him.
"Oh yeah. Ye remember Eire, o'course, mum?" Nate replied, gesturing to Eire.
"O'course." Helena replied back with a warm smile on Eire. "It's good t' see ye again, Eire."
"Same 'ere, Mrs. MacDonnell." Eire replied with a smile himself.
"And this Xander Caine, a close friend of Eire and I's." Nate introduced Xander. Helena inclinded her head still smiling.
Xander smiled back. "It's a real pleasure to meet you, ma'am." He said politely.
"Please
don't call me ma'am, it makes me feel old." Helena said with a soft
laugh. "Ye both can call me Helena." She turned her eyes on Lexine,
who'd been standing quietly with his hands in front of him, demeer as
could be. Helena glanced at Nate, who had also been looking at Lexine.
She was forced to smile upon watching her son, seeing a certain look in
his eyes and it took a delicate cough to get his attention.
A
blush began creeping into Nate's cheeks, and Nate wasn't one to blush.
He cleared his throat. "An' this is Lexine Mordant, me...girlfriend.
Lexi, me mum, Helena."
Helena turned to Lexine, holding out a
hand. Lexine came forward, shaking her hand demeerly. "It's wonderful
t' meet ye, me dear." Helena said with a warm smile.
Lexine smiled back. "Thank you. It's wonderful to meet you, as well."
Eire
had to turn around to look the other way, to hide the smirk at Lexine's
such elloqent manors. Xander was giving him a look when he'd turned
around and it was clear Nate had still seen the smirk because he gave
him a dry expression. Eire smiled sheepishly and shrugged.
"Your
rooms have alll been perpared." Helena said to the group. "I'll show ye
the way." She started to turn to go back up the stair case.
"Well
well, look'it wha' we 'ave 'ere." Came an egotistical tone. From a side
hall came another handsome young man, with light brown hair. He was
snobbishedly dressed and looked almost annoyed to see Nate standing by
the stairs and his mother.
"Nice t' see ye t', Conner." Nate replied dryly.
"I'm
surprised t' see ye actually came this time. We all know how busy ye've
been." Conner said, a slight tone behind the words. Nate eyed him and
watched his cousin's gaze slip past his shoulder and he watched Conner
began to smile, knowing exactly who Conner's gaze had fallen upon.
Nate's lip curled back, silently daring Conner to say something. But if
his cousin saw, he made no notice of the action. But perhaps because
they were in Helena's presence, he kept any remarks that would have
goaded Nate into a confrantation to himself. "Perhaps it's prudent t'
ask for introductions, Nathenial?"
"Me close friends, Eire and
Xander. And me Lexine." There was a hidden threat behind Nate's words
and he knew Conner had spotted it, because Conner looked his way now
and there was a look in his eyes that silently defied Nate.
"Conner
is 'ere for a few days as well." Helena said in explanation as Nate
gave her a questioning look, almost asking what Conner was doing there.
"I suppose a few days is all ye have time for." Conner
remarked. But Helena's eyes flashed a stern warning, before Nate could
reply, and Conner said quickly "If ye would excuse." With that he left
them.
"Now, ye would all like t follow me." Helena said
calmly, turning back up the stairs. They followed her up the stairs,
but Lexine was looking off in the direction Conner had gone with a
slightly wide eyed expression. He didn't see Duncan watching him with a
thoughful look.
**** Lexine's room was right next to Nate's
and he some how figured that everyone expected that he'd either be
spending more time in Nate's room or vise versa, but no one said
anything and the room was still quiet spacious. He ran a hand over the
bedspread as he moved toward the small windowed balcony and stared out
at the snow. The home sick feeling was slowly growing, and as it grew,
Lexine felt more worn out. Nate had said that Sands had said Lexine
would feel a draw toward the door's location, but all Lexine was
feeling was home sick, which was slowly starting to get phsycial
instead of just mental. He didn't know what he'd do if they ended up
having to stay here longer then a few days.
Leaning up against
the balcony's door frame, he watched the snow falling, crossing his
arms over his chest and let his mind wonder. He thought about things
back at Chaos Inc. He wondered what his father was doing. He wondered
what Ruex was doing, he wondered what Sands and Aiyla were up to. He
ended up thinking about Saffron, and found his thoughts turning to
their mother. Still, he knew nothing about her. Not even her name,
though he was pretty sure Auron had said her name was Lillian. He
wondered just how much about her, Auron had known. It had been clear,
nearly from the start, when Lexine and Saffron had seen them together
that Auron had always only been in love with Chaos. Their relationship
hardly bothered Lexine. Really, he was happy for the both of them. He
knew if things had never happened that he wouldn't have been around,
but Auron and Chaos were happy together it seemed. And who was Lexine
to speak out against it. You couldn't stop who you feel in love with.
Lexine
knew that so well. He didn't know if he had been meant to be a hopless
romantic in the end. But he knew he believed in love. Even if he'd been
unlucky in it, so far. He'd known, even from the start, that Rowen had
only been toying with him, but he'd still let himself fall in love with
the air elemental. Rowen had so much to use against Lexine now, and he
knew it, and he took pleasure in using it against the delicate red
head. Lexine was almost scared to think what Rowen would use next.
But
Lexine hadn't been able to help himself, when he'd fallen in love with
Nate. He just couldn't help it. The more time he spent around Nate, the
harder he fell for him. Nate understood him. And so Lexine had ended up
opening his heart, once more, to Nate. He tried not to think about the
possiblity that Nate was only the same as Rowen and only playing
around. He tried, despertly not to be bothered by the fact that Nate
had yet to say it. That he loved Lexine in return. So Lexine said
nothing, but he knew deep down he was only waiting for his heart to be
broken. He wondered briefly what he'd do if that happened. Could he
stand still working at Chaos Inc with Nate always around. He'd come to
like working for Chaos. They'd all become his extended family. He
didn't know how he'd explain it to her if he did have to leave. But
Gods, he loved Nate. He felt that if Nate truly did love him, he could
handle this.
He was still watching the snow fall when his door
was opened. So lost in his thought, he didn't hear Nate approaching.
"Baby doll." Nate said softly, laying a hand on Lexine's waist and
braced himself for the startle he knew was coming. He caught Lexine
with both hands by the waist as Lexine jumped, turning fast and
slamming into door frame. Lexine grimaced silently from the unexpected
pain and stumbled forward into Nate, who wrapped his arms around his
lover. He chuckled softly, as Lexine curled into him, his arms tucked
against him. He could still feel Lexine's heart pounding. Lexine closed
his eyes, snuggled against Nate and slowed his breathing.
"Baby doll, wha' am I gonna do with ye?" Nate asked softly, kissing Lexine's forehead.
"I was only thinking." Lexine whispered, his head against Nate's shoulder.
"I know ya were. If ye wasn't, ye would've heard me come in." Nate replied, tipping his chin upward.
"I'm just tired." Lexine replied.
Nated smiled softly at the lie and asked. "Shall I make your excuse at dinner?"
"Oh no, that wouldn't be polite.." Lexine said with a frown.
Nate gave him an amused look. "They'd understand..."
"No, its okay...I'll come." Lexine said softly.
Nate nodded and said. "They're waitin' for us downstairs." He took Lexine's hand, leading him to the door.
They
went down stairs toward the dinning room. As they approached, they
suddenly heard Helena shout. "I don't care if she's a Colmbian Drug
Lard! She is in me home and AS such, ye will pay her a ladies' respect
as yer saint o' a mother breed int' ya, or so help me, Conner Edmund
MacCallugh, I WILL take ye o'er me knee! Do ya understand me?!" There
was a fist banged off the table for empushise.
"An' she'll do it t'!" Came a cackle from Duncan.
"Duncan!"
Helena snapped. "Now ye should be righ' shamed t' be actin' this way in
front o' Nate's friends- Eire get yer elbows off the table his
instant!- an' it's bloody good thing he went up stairs t' fetch 'er!"
"Yes ma'am." Came a pitiful reply from Eire.
Nate
stopped out side the door and looked at Lexine, who was staring at the
door slightly wide eyed. "Is she always like this?" Lexine asked
softly, his british accent a bit more clear in the scottish house.
"Always." Nate replied with a smug smile. His mother could hold her own.
"Why's it a good thing?" Came a question for Duncan.
And
Helena snapped, going on. "Because I said so! Don't ye roll yer eyes at
me, Conner McCallugh. Yer not t' old to take a switch t'! If yer mother
were alive, she'd be damn righ' ashamed o' ye! Xander, dear, don't
slouch- It was only outta love fer your father, that you'r 'ere Conner.
Now grow up! An' I'm warnin' ya, boy'o. The same goes fer ALL o' ye!"
Her voice softened and said quiet calmly. "Ye can come in, now, Nate,
darlin'. Ye to, Lexine."
Nate pushed the door open with his
free hand and led Lexine into the room. All four young men around the
table were staring at it's table cloth sullenly with burning ears.
Xander was trying not to slouch in the high backed dinning chair. And
Helena was standing at the head of the table. There was a older man
standing behind her, smirking at the boys. "'Ello Lexine, dear." Helena
smiled warmly and gestured to a seat. Bate pulled out Lexine's chair
and glanced at the only other set place at the opposite head of the
table from his mother. He hesitated, but Helena motioned to it and Nate
sat down.
"Now then. Ye may go Mr. Brown." Helena said to gentleman at her side.
Mr.
Brown nodded and headed for the door, still smirking. He winked at Nate
as he left and Nate couldn't help but grin. He looked at his mother and
even from where he was, he could see the mischief in her eyes. "We're
joined this evening by Father Quiggly. Ye remember Father Quiggly o'
course, Nate."
Nate looked at the older man seated at the table and stood offering his hand. "O' course. It's good t' see ya, Father."
Father Quiggly nodded and shook his hand. "Yer lookin' well Nathaniel."
"Thank ye. May introduce me girlfriend, Lexine Mordant, Lexi, Father Quggly, me family's priest and confessor."
Lexine inclined his head and said softly. "Its very nice to meet you, Father Quiggly."
"Pleasures all mine." The father said with a cheerful smile.
Dinner
began being served and Helena opened her napkin with a snap and placed
it on her lap before saying. "Well, how are things getting along at
Chaos Inc? How is Lady Chaos?"
"Chaos is good, mum. She's been
reuntied with her...husband, Lexine's father. An' she's got her wee
nephew as well." Nate answered, resting his hands on the table.
"Goodness! A lot. Is that how ye and Lexine met?" Helena asked.
"Er, not exactly. " Nate replied. "We met through a mutal friend, an' then Lexi started workin' for Chaos."
"Oh. And what do ye do, Lexine?" Helena asked curiously.
Lexine
glanced at Nate as the drinks were being poured. "I'm currently working
as a second receptionist, but I do help out with other things." He
answered softly.
"So where'd ya come from, Lexine?" Conner asked from his spot, trying to ignore the several cold looks that came his way.
"I was...raised in England, but my father is French and my mother was Irish." Lexine replied with a pause.
"Yer
mum's dead then?" Conner asked, then winced, Duncan had kicked him hard
in the leg and Helena was glaring at the both, openly.
"She died giving birth t' me." Lexine replied calmly, while looking at Connor with a unamused look and a blinking eyes.
"I'm so sorry t' hear that." Helena said gently. Lexine offered a wry smile. "An' what does yer father do?"
"He
comes from a wealthy family really, but he...dabbles in security..."
Lexine replied, knowing it probably sounded ridikulous.
"I see. Are ye an only child?"
Lexine grimaced, forced to turn his eyes away a moment. "My brother, Saffron died five months ago..."
Helena
sighed, "I'm so very sorry." She shot Nate a look for the lack of
information he should have told her concerning Lexine. Nate winced and
hung his head.
Under the table, he reached over and took
Lexine's hand, stroking the back of it with his thumb, reassuringly.
Lexine squeezed his hand gently in thank you.
The rest of the
dinner was pleasent, Conner kept to himself or conversed with Father
Quiggly. Helena asked all kinds of questions about how and what Eire
and Nate had been doing and what Xander did. But no one asked to many
questions of Lexine and he was releived of that. He just didn't think
he could take an interrogation right now. How ever, every once in a
while, he'd catch Conner watching him, from the corner of his eye.
After dinner, they retired to the parlor. Duncan opened a bottle of
port and served it.
Lexine stood near the window, looking out.
The entire world out there, seemed to be completely covered in white.
And yet it was still snowing. This time he felt Nate's approach and
looked over at him as Nate came to lean against the window frame with
his glass. "It's not as pretty a view as it is when the sun is jus'
comin' up through those trees there." He pointed slightly, his fingers
brushing the cold glass.
"It's still a nice view.."Lexine answerd.
"Aye."
Nate said with a nod and took a sip. He reached over and stroked
Lexine's arm. "Thing's turn out alight, darlin'." He said softly.
Lexine smiled slightly and leaned against Nate.
