Manny
stood and stared up at the drop-dead gorgeous brunette standing behind
the desk. If she hadn't of been standing, he probably wouldn't have
seen her at all. Standing at just under four feet tall, the top of his
head just came even with the top edge of the desk. He'd have to stand
on tip-toes to see over it, and he hated doing that. Instead he cleared
his throat, and saw the chick look up and glance around the reception
area before giving a shrug and returning to whatever she was doing.
He
gave a sigh and reached up and pounded on the desk, catching her
attention. She looked surprized them grinned and leaned across the
desk, looking down at him. He wished she'd lean out just a tad bit
more... "Oh hi! Aren't you a cutie!? What can I do for you?"
Manny
frowned, loosing all interest in the woman. He hated when they talked
to him like he was some sort of doll or baby or something. "I'm here to
see someone about a possible job." he said gruffly, crossing his arms
over his chest and trying to look mean. In truth, it wasn't a look he
could pull off very well with his golden curls and baby blue eyes.. and
what everyone called his 'pinchably cute cheeks'. Which only made him
try harder to perfect his glowers and glares.
The brunette
smiled some more, managing to look a tad confused as she did so. "A
job?" she asked. "As in, you're like to hire us or you'd like us to
hire you?"
He gave a soft growl under his breath before
answering. "I'd like to apply for a job." he stated. "I have my resume
with me. Do you have applications? Or should I meet with someone?"
"Oh."
she said and tapped a well chewed pen against her lips in a manner that
him start to reconsider his dislike of her. "Well.. what can you do? I
mean we just filled our secretarial staff and security is full as
well... I don't think we need another janitor, although I can ask..."
A
Janitor?!? Manny felt his face turning red. "Look here, chippee, I'm
here to apply for the team of hunters. I have loads of experience with
the paranormal and preternatural..." he let his voice trail off as he
saw that glazed look come over her face, like she was trying not to
laugh. "Look, lady. I'm gonna take a seat and you're going to call your
boss, got it?"
She nodded, her lips pressed tightly together and
pointed towards the chairs as if he couldn't already see them. With a
disgusted sigh, he turned and headed towards the seating area. Half way
there two guys came waltzing along and slammed into him, knocking him
down.
"Oh, hey there little guy.. didn't see ya!" One said and
leaned down to smile at him, a ridiculous looking stocking cap covered
his head with a long pom pom covered tail that swung over his shoulder.
Manny glowered up at the guy who was obviouly trying to hide the fact
that he had something growing out of his head.. you could see the lump
under the hat.
The muscle bound guy with him looked down and
smirked, holding out a hand to Manny. Against his better judgement,
Manny accepted the hand and was jerked literally off the floor and set
back on his feet. "Sorry, mite. Didn't hurt you, did I?"
Manny growled under his breath. * mite?!?* He gritted his teeth and ground out a reply. "I'm fine, thanks."
"Reese!
I didn' know ye had a kid!" A voice hollered out form behind him and
Manny turned to see two more men coming out of the stair well. One had
silver hair the other looked like some kind of biker cowboy wanna be...
The silver hair was grinning. "'Ey, sorry..." he swung a punch at
Muscle bounds arm as the two went past them laughing.
The brunette behind the desk leaned foward again. "Nate! Hey!" The cowboybiker turned. "This guy wants to work with you guys.. got an application or something for him?"
Nate
the biker-cowboy and Silver hair both turned to look down at him.
Silver hair burst out laughing and slapped Nate's shoulder as he left
the room. Nate tipped his hat, a huge grin splitting his face.
"Well..er...'suppose ye should ask Kay on tha' one, Shauna.. she
normally takes care o' tha' end.."
Manny was fuming so bad he
was sure there would be smoke coming out of his ears. Was everyone in
this place this rude? I mean, a guy gets tired of his current job and
decides to try for something a bit different... and what happens? He
gets ignored, babytalked to, tripped over, laughed at.. this was just
too much.. did he really want this job bad enough to put up with these
idiots?
More laughter form the hall that biker boy and silver
hair had gone through did it. Manny gave an indignat and furious sniff,
pushed up his sleeves and stalked towards the stairs. He'd made it all
the way to the front doors when a sudden idea hit him. No one ever took
him seriously. He hated being a cupid... you go around doing your job
and you never got credit for it! But no one would give him a shot at
being anything BUT a cupid. Fine. If that's how they wanted it, he was
going to give them a cupid they would NEVER forget.
Manny turned back to the stairs and shimmered into invisibilty as he started to climb."You people are going to regret this."
The
security guard looked up, glancing around the room for the source of
the voice. Seeing no one he checked his cameras but none of them showed
anyone in the area and there had been no unauthorized entries. He
shrugged and went back to reading the newspaper.
**
Lex
was looking over some things in a spare office just off the reception
area, he'd been emersed in that, that he hadn't heard anything.
Until the soft cough of some one clearing their throat caused him to look up. Estehl was leaning against the door frame.
"What is it with fae sneaking up on people?" Lex asked, giving him a look.
"Well that wasn't exactly sneaking up on...if I wanted to sneak up on you Lexine, I would have." Estehl said with a chuckle.
"Looking for something?" Lex asked, sitting back in the chair.
"More
like someONE." Estehl answered, before moving into the room and
flopping down in the other chair. "But that can wait. I never pass up a
chance for a good coversation." He said with a smirk.
Lex
shook his head, bemused, before shutting the folder. "No, I don't know
where Jasmine's been hiding the last couple of days. She was rather
annoyed at you. And I doubt Faal would really tell you if he knows."
Lex said with a pointed look.
"How do you know it has anything to DO with Jasmine?" Estehl asked.
"Then what is it you want to have a coversation about?" Lex aske with a look in reply.
Estehl
gave an non chalant shrug, with a slight smirk. They were quiet a
moment, then Estehl asked softly. "So you really DON'T have any
idea...she's rather good at hiding isn't she?"
"I have an
idea...but since Jasmine's a good friend...I'm not goign to say. You
could always go pester Candy though." Lex replied, he'd gone back to
his folder again.
Estehl chuckled, watching the red head a
moment. He started to get up, when something hit him in the back of the
head. He wasn't sure if it was physical or just a thought. But if it
were a thought, it was a rather intense thought, and he dropped back
down into the chair, suddenly seeing the devestatingly alluring redhead
differently...
"Lexine, I feel I have to say something..." He said after a moment.
"Hmm?"
Lex was running the end of his pen over his lips while he read. He had
no idea how much THAT was driving Estehl suddenly crazy.
Estehl groaned softly, watching the action, then said. "You have the most amazing and beautiful eyes I've ever seen..."
Lex dropped his hand suddenly, looking up at Estehl slightly wide eyed. "Excuse me?" He asked in a near whisper.
"You're
eyes, their gorgeous. Well, that's not all that's lovely about you..."
Estehl replied a bit earnestly, before leaning for ward.
"Um...that's nice and all but..." Lex started to say.
Estehl
suddenly seized his hand. "DOn't tell me not to say it, Lexine. It's
impossible not to say it when it's true!" He said with an almost pained
expression before kissing Lex's knuckles.
Lex stared at him in horror. "What. In. The. World. Has. Gotten. Into. You?" He stressed each word.
"I
don't know..." Estehl gestured it off with one hand before kissing
Lex's hand again. "I really don't, but I just realized, you are the
most gorgeous creature I've ever seen!"
Lex snatched his hand
back. "Thank you, but this really isn't...no, you've totally lost it
Estehl!" He said, grabbing the folder and starting to get up.
Estehl sprung up and around the desk, capturing Lex by the shoulder. "I know I mad...madly in love...with you."
Lex
suddenly stomped a foot on Estehl's toes. "Estehl...let me go...Jasmine
would be very mad at you if she could hear this...and I don't think
Faal would be to happy about it EITHER!"
"Oh, forget about
them!" Estehl said desperatly, still holding Lex by the shoulders. It
was a tight hold but not rough. "Lets leave here together...run
away...anywhere, just you and me! We can do anything you like, just as
long as I can be with you...I love you Lex, I really do!" Estehl said
seriously.
Lex stared at him in fright. "Okay, Estehl...you
are really starting to scare me here...I think I'll go have Chaos...or
some one call the nice men in the white coats..."
"Oh Lex, stop teasing!" Estehl said with a groan, leaning forward.
"Estehl, no...don't...no...I'm warning you!" Lex didn't have a chance to finish, Estehl kissed him.
Lex
did the only thing he could think of, he stompped even harder on
Estehl's foot and shoved away from him, before dodging around the desk.
Estehl followed.
"Estehl, I'll scream! I swear to god I will!" Lex warned.
"I understand..." Estehl said reasonably, before snatching Lex's hand. "I have that effect..."
So that was exactly what Lex did. He screamed.
**
Auron's head jerked up at the sound of the scream. "That sounded like Lex!" he said and shoved himself away from the desk.
Sands
had his gun drawn and was half way to the door by the time Auron had
stood up. The two men reached the closed door from which the screams
were resonating at almost the same time.
Auron slid to one side
while Sands slid to the other and reached for the door knob, shoving
the door open. A heart beat before they could look into the room, Lex
came running out.
"Lexine! Wait! Please!" Estehl came running out after him.
The two men glanced after the two fleeing figures and slipped into the office, weapons ready.
Auron
looked around the room, and scratched the back of his neck, a puzzled
expression on his face. "I don't get it... there's no one here..."
Sands
holstered his gun and shook his head. "What do you think got into him?"
he asked and suddenly slapped the back of his neck.
Auron raised
an eyebrow and banished his sword. "I don't know... it was just him and
Estehl in here... I can't see Estehl doing anything to... is something
wrong?" he asked suspiciously as Sands walked closer, a predatory look
on his face. He turned, thinking something had appeared behind him, but
there was nothing. When he turned back, Sands was inches away from him,
a half smirk on his face. auron stumbled in surprise at Sands closeness
and expression and found himself half sitting half leaning on the desk.
Sands
placed a hand on the desk to either side of him and leaned in, peering
over the edge of his sunglasses. "It appears that we're all alone in
here..."
Auron swallowed hard, trying to figure out what Sands was up to. "Yes, it appears so. We should go see if we can't find Lex..."
Sands
leaned in a bit more, preventing Auron from standing up any further.
"Nah. I'm sure Lex will be fine... probably saw a mouse or something."
The predatory smile returned as Sands let his gaze rove over Auron form
head to foot, then back again. "I like it in here."
"Sands... what the devil are you up to? Are you feeling alright?"
The
smile grew even bigger as he took a step closer, pressing Auron against
the desk. "Never felt better." he said and slid both hands across the
desk until they came to rest against Auron's hips. "As to what I'm up
to... that should be obvious..."
Auron's eyes went wide in shock as Sands leaned even closer....
**
Chaos
had been on her way her office when she'd heard laughter up ahead. Eire
and Nate. the two men were standing outside Nate's office and Nate had
his hand on the knob as if he was about to go in. Eire suddenly ducked
down to pick something up off the ground, and at that moment Chaos felt
a sudden sting hit her stomach. she scowled and bent over rubbing the
spot, lookng to see if something had bit her. A door closed and she
looked up.. ...and saw Eire walking towards her.
She smiled. "Hello Eire.." she said and pushed open the door to her office. "Care to step inside for a moment?"
Eire raised an eyebrow at her but headed through the door. "Sure.. somethin' wrong?"
Chaos
smiled, letting her body shift to her demon form and followed Eire
inside, closing the door and locking it behind her. "No...nothing's
wrong... never better..."
Eire heard the click of the lock and
turned to look at her and suddenly forgot what he was going to say.
Chaos had come right up behind him and he hadn't noticed until he
turned around and found him self nose to nose with her. "Uh .. Kay?"
"Yes?" she asked, letting her tail wrap around his waist and pulling him agaisnt her, while her arms slid around his neck.
Eire swallowed. "wha..?"
"Shhh."
she said, her face still a breath away from his. "I don't want you to
talk right now, Eire. " she said, huskily. "I have other uses for your
mouth."
Eire's eyes opened wider. "Uh..Kay.. really.."
Her tail sudden gave his wasit a squeeze before the tip of her tail slid between his legs. "Oh .. boy.. ..uh.. Kay..?"
"Damn
it Eire.. didn't I tell you to shut up?" Chaos asked softly, a smile on
her face and her eyes glittering. "Now are you going to kiss me, or do
I have to do everything myself?"
Somewhere nearby a scream rang
out. Chaos glanced to the side but shrugged and turned back to Eire.
"Tha'.. tha sounded Like Lex... "
Chaos sighed. "Lex is fine,
Eire. Lot's of people to run to the rescue. Am I to take that as my
answer?" she asked, letting one hand slip donw from around his neck and
stroke her nails over his throat as she spoke.
" uhh....."
Chaos
smiled and shrugged. "Okay." she said and slipped her arm back around
his neck. She brushed her lips over his lightly once before catching
him in a kiss that made his knees buckle...
**
Nate
cracked the door open, guns at the ready and peered up and down the
hall. The scream had sounded like it had come from the far hall, closer
to the staff room. He heard booted feet running towards the sound and
made out Auron and Sands voices. Knowing they'd have this end covered,
he ran out to the reception area intent on going through the staff room
to the hall, cutting off any trouble form that direction.
But
instead he skidded to a halt, his guns dropping to his sides in shock
as he took in the sight that greated him at the main desk.
Aiyla... HIS Aiyla... was locked in a rather passionate embrace... with Shauna...
He
completely forgot everything else... his eyes glued with total
disbeleif on the scene before him. He finally managed to clear his
throat. "A... Aiy?"
He had to repeat himself and finally walk
over to the desk and tap her on the shoulder before the kiss broke up
and she looked up at him. "Hmmm? Nate? Hey.. what's up?"
Nate's eyebrow shot up and he waved a gun between the two of them. "Was gonna ask ye th' same... "
Aiyla
looked back to Shauna who still had her arms wrapped around her, but
they both had rather confused expressions on their faces. Slowly they
untangled themselves from eachother, Shauna turning a rather fetching
shade of red. " Umm.. damn .. I .. uh..." she snatched up her coat and
ran for the stairs, leaving Aiyla and Nate on opposite sides of the
desk.
Aiyla turned to Nate, bit her lip and gave a half shrug. "Um.... oops?"
**
Lex
fled into an office and slammed the door, locking it. For good measure
he began moving as much furniture as he could in front of the door. But
Estehl had followed to the door.
"Don't do this Lexine!" He called in a distressed tone. "I love you!"
"May
I ask WHY the fuck Lexine just locked himself in that office and why
you're yelling that you love him?" Came a voice behind Estehl.
Estehl
turned to find Xander standing there. "What do you mean, I lo-" Estehl
stopped, starting to blink rapidly a moment. The great thing about Fae
is they may be supseptable to magic, but it didn't always last long.
"What a tick...did I just say what I think I said.." He inquired,
looking at Xander.
"Ya said ya were in love with him..." Xander said flatly.
"Oooh...uh oh..." Estehl moaned, looking at the door. Intitution said something was very wrong.
Xander
snorted and started to say something when something bit him in the
neck. HE scratched the spot and frowned, looking at Estehl. Hmm...how
come he hadn't noticed how...attractive Estehl was before...he had
really nice...well his ass was really nice that's for sure... He let
his eyes travel over the crown prince and could entirely see what
Jasmine had been talking about.
"I think there might be
something...very wrong...Xander, why are you leering at me...Jesus..."
Estehl groaned and had to hold out a hand as Xander sashayed closer. He
looked at the door. "Lexine, I apologize, my behavior was completely
out of order, but do me a favor. What ever you do, do NOT leave that
office. And dnot let anyone in...I shall explain later."
Xander slid closer to Estehl as Estehl turned back to him. "You smell nice..."
"Xander...do
not...you're going to regret, anything you say or do...but I completely
understand you're not yourself right now...I think we have a wee bit of
a problem running about. XANDER!"
He fell backwards as Xander pounced, knocking them both to the floor.
In
the office, Lex backed away, staring wide eyed at the door. Oh no, he'd
take Estehl's advice. He wasn't leaving the office and he wasn't
opening the door. For good measure, he brandished both his chakrums,
walking backwards back around the desk and sitting down behind it in
the chair, still watching the door.
**
Jasmine
stalked down the hall, enraged...beyond enraged. She was very mad at
Estehl. And she needed to vent, which meant she could only talk to the
only other person to know her secret, Faal.
She turned the
corner in the hall and saw him coming from the other way on his way to
his office. "Perfect!" Jasmine growled, snatching his arm. "Just the
person I've been looking for!"
"Leave me, out of it, Jasmine." Faal said wrily, offering his arm anyway, with a sigh.
"I just need to vent!" Jasmine replied with a look, falling into step with him.
"Would it help if I just went and beat him up?" Faal asked with a slightly bemused expression.
Jasmine's amber eyes flashed, as she looked back at him. "It might, not stop being a smart ass and just listen."
"What
ever you wish, my lady, but do make it short, I'm supposed to have
dinner with Lex tonight." Faal replied, and winced teasingly when she
lightly pinched his arm with that 'Don't' expression.
"I suppose he's given you HIS side of the story," Jasmine went on eyes steelily.
"Possibily, I just learned to tune him out." Faal replied.
"A useful trick to be sure." Jasmine muttered. "Well to make it short, he said some things he really shouldn't said."
"1500 years, you'd think he'd learn." Faal replied with mock interest. Jasmine was really quiet amusing when she was like this.
"You'd think. No, he BLAMED them on me, and has yet to apologize." Jasmine went on.
"And you stormed off...and have refused to talk to him now...Jasmine, dear...we've been here before..."
Jasmine
practically stomped on his foot, before turning to storm off. Faal
grimaced and started after her. "Jasmine, wait! Will you just stop a
moment!"
Jasmine stopped and rounded on him. "If you'd let me
finish what I was saying before you pass judgement, Faal," She poked
him in the chest. "Then maybe I'd get to WHY we were fighting in the
first place! Which if Estehl has said nothing about, its THAT!" She
poked again.
"Alright." Faal replied with a tone. "Where would
you like to talk, my office, or we can got for coffee..." He offered
his arm again.
Jasmine eyed him, then took it, they begin
turning the corner, when they both stopped. Both glanced back down the
hall, with a raised eyebrow. "Did you feel that?" Jasmine asked turning
her eyes back to Faal.
"I was about to ask that same question." Faal replied turning from the corner. Jasmine shrugged.
"Stranger
things I suppose." She muttered thoughtfully. she was looking at Faal
oddly, noticing for the first time in a while, how handsome he was,
even with the glamour. Well he'd always been handsome...she blushed at
the very thought, turning her head.
Faal noticed her blush and
turned his eyes back to her. He blinked a moment, He had a suddenly
rush of lightheadedness he hadn't got around her in a very long time.
Estehl really was a fool...whoa...were did that come from? "So you were
going to...explain... what started the arguement first..." He said,
rather then let the silence drag out.
"What argument...oh...that...never mind, it really doesn't matter." Jasmine muttered with a gesture.
They
both stopped again, turning to each other. Then Jasmine flung her arms
around Faal's neck, kissing him hard, catching him on surprise, but it
wasn't really unpleasent surprise. Actually quiet the opposite and then
Faal was kissing her just as hard.
"JASMINE!"
Jasmine
managed to pull away enough to look. Estehl was stalking down the hall,
glamour dropped. But he was still trying to detangle hismef from
Xander. Pausing, he took the young by the shoulders, pushed him away,
and flicked his wrist. Xander coudln't move. "Stay put!" Estehl
growled, before turning and stalking back down the hall.
Faal
was still holding Jasmine, who hadn't quiet let go of him, but they
both stared at Estehl. When Estehl reached them, he grabbed them both
by the ear. "Excsue, will you come with me please, thank you." He
growled, prying them apart and 'escorting' them down hall, into an
empty off.
Pushing both through, he entered, slamming the door
behind him and standing in front of it. He pointed a finger at Faal.
"If I wasn't absolutely sure, now, what the bloody hell was going on in
this place, I'd challenge your ass to a duel right here!" He growled.
"And
YOU." He growled, pointing at Jasmine. "If you knew what I'd just
endured AND put Lex through, BECAUSE I was looking for you to
apologize, you'd be ashamed of yourself!"
"Put Lex through, what are you talking about?" Jasmine asked in an airy tone.
Estehl groaned and gave her a dark look. "Lex... What about Lex, what happened?!" Faal growled suddenly.
"NOW
you remember Lexine!" Estehl snapped. "Lex is currently locked in spare
office and a right damn good place for the brat!" Estehl sneered.
Faal growled and grabbed Estehl by the collar. "And just what is he doing locked in an office?!"
"Well if YOU weren't out in the hall kissing Jasmine, maybe you'd know!" Estehl snapped back, giving Faal a slight push.
"Estehl!
Faal! Damn it! NOT NOW!" Jasmine suddenly snarled, shoving them both
away from each other. "WHAT the bloody fuck is going on, Estehl!? WHY
did I suddeny think I was madly inlove with Faal?! Why was Xander
hanging all over you?! And does any of this have to do with Lex locked
in a office?!"
Estehl took a moment, amused by Jasmine's temper. "We've got a rabid cupid on the loose." He said simply.
Jasmine
opened her mouth, then shut it. "That makes sense..." She muttered with
a blush and glanced at Faal who appeared just as embarassed.
"Not HALF as bad as what I did..." Estehl muttered.
"What did you do?!" Jasmine hissed, eyes flashing.
"I
confessed my undying love to Lexine and I kissed him." Estehl said with
a sarcastic tone, aware of Faal's suddenly look, which was a bit harder
to endure than Jasmine's look. "And THAT is why he is locked in an
office. The spell wore off quickly, but the damage was done. I told him
to stay put and not to open the door."
"So Xander was the next victim?" Jasmine asked.
"Indoutably...Just what have you been telling that boy?" Estehl replied, eyeing her.
**
Lex
shoved the desk away from the door and unlocked the door, cracking it
open. The hall way was empty. Lex looked back and forth along the way.
Then he heard footsteps and drew back, closing the door more. Xander
came around the corner, muttering and obviously between annoyed and
embarassed. Estehl's spell had worn off.
He looked up just as
he was crossing in front of the office and saw Lex peeking out.
"Thought he told ya to stay in there?" Xander grumbled.
Lex
opened the door a little more, sticking his head back out. "It qot
quiet out here..." He muttered as if that explained it all.
Xander snorted, stopping for a moment. "Estehl caught Jasmine and..." Xander trailed off, shifting his feet nervously.
"Jasmine and who?" Lex replied, suddenly eyeing Xander.
"Can't remember, didn't see. Just know Jasmine was kissin' them. TO be honest, I was kinda stuck on Estehl, so...er..."
'She was kissing Faal?" Lex replied with out a beat.
"Er...yeah..."
For
a moment, Lex looked like he was ready to storm off down the hall. He
even stepped INTO the hall, staring off the way Xander had come.
"I
don't really think...I mean, there's somethin' really funny goin' on
'round here, Lex..." Xander said in effort to talk some sense into the
petite redhead.
Then Lex turned and looked at Xander. Xander
looked back. "Aw shit..." Xander muttered, before they were both
kissing each other. They stumbled back into the office. Xander managed
to catch the end of the moved desk and tryed to pull away from Lex, who
was obviously trying to do the same, but they couldn't quiet manage to
stop kissing.
"Lex...damn...no...this is..." Xander muttered between heavy and hot kisses, one arm around Lex's waist.
"I
know...I just...oh god..."Lex whimpered as Xander kissed him. The
kissing was only increasing. Then Lex stomped on Xander's foot.
Xander
sprang back with surprise and Lex put himself on the other side of the
desk. They were both trying to catch their breath. Lex shook his head
slowly. "Not exactly what I had in mind, but I'll take it." Xander said
with a slightly nervous grin about how Lex had gotten them to stop. Lex
gave a nervous giggle.
"That was...no...very wrong..." Lex breathed, with the giggle.
Xander sank down against the other wall. "What the fuck is goin' on in this place..."
**
Saffron
slammed open the office door...only to stop dead, Auron had Sands in a
headlock, his face smushed against the desk. "Try that again, Sands,
and I'll shove my sword so far up your ass..." Auron growled.
"Uh..."
Saffron held up a finger. Auron let go of Sands and walked out of the
room with out a word. Saffron stared back and forth with a raised
eyebrow
And was quickly joined, as Rue poked her head in. "What the hell?" She said, what Saffron could.
Sands
said nothing, and left himself. Saffron and Rue watched him go. Both
stepped into the room, looking around. "What the fuck was that all
about?" Rue muttered.
"Beats me, I just thought I heard Lex
scream..." Saffron replied, he started out of the room, when the door
closed. He blinked, seeing Rue in front of it. And looking incredibly
sexy, stalking toward him. "Uh...Rue..." She pounced, they hit the
floor and ended up behind the desk, in a serious make out session.
Except Saffron hadn’t been hit...
Bull emerged into the
kitchen to see Reese heading back into the lobby and quickly followed.
They'd been donw in the lounge playing a quick game of pool when they'd
heard a scream and decided the elevator was quickest. Bull could've
portalled up, but since they weren't sure what was going on, Reese had
thought it would be better if they went up and checked things before
jumping into the middle... uncharistically thoughtful of the big
werewolf...
And now Reese was off and running leaving Bull to
follow. He rubbed the base of his horn as it started to ache oddly. He
snorted softly, recognizing it as the same odd feeling he'd get when
one of the fae were around...
He came to a stop as he spotted
Reese and Sylvie speaking by the desk and a rather angry looking mob of
Chaos employees stalking in from the other hall....
...and the
little guy he'd tripped over earlier standing to the side with a fancy
looking bow, the arrow aimed straight at Reese.
"Hey!" he called and grabbed the guy by the back of the neck, his other hand snatching away the bow. "What the hell...?"
Manny
cursed and kicked out at him, trying to twist out of his grasp. He
didn't know how the guy had seen through his invisibilty glamour... he
looked up to see the guy holding him was the one with the goofy hat and
a sudden realization hit him. He stopped struggling and crossed his
arms over his chest. " Ahh Fuck." he muttered softly with a sigh as he
turned to face the angry mob surrounding them.
Nate eyed the two of them curiously. "It's th' litle fella... what th' blazes were ye up ta?"
There
was the sound of a door opening back down the hall behind everyone and
Kay emerged. A faint blush tinted her cheeks but she ignored it as she
looked around curiously at everyone, her eyes falling on Bull and his
captive. One fine white eyebrow raised and she turned to Nate. "Do I
even want to know?"
"It seems our little friend here is a
cupid.. and a rather pissed off cupid at that.. pardon my language."
Estehl put in helpfully. "He's been running around here having himself
quite a laugh at our expense."
Chaos turned her attention to Manny. "Is this true?" she asked simply.
Manny
eyed her thoughtfully then shrugged as well as he could with Bull's
grip still place. "Yeah. Well... not so much the laugh part... that
would've come later when I was finished being pissed off.. but yeah,
it's true."
Chaos ignored the grumbles around her and raised a
hand to quiet them down. "May I ask who you are and WHY you were pissed
off? "She crossed her arms and narrowed her eyes at him. "Not to
mention how you managed to slip past security.. especially with that
bow..."
Manny looked up at her with his own sour gaze, still
looking to cute to pull it off very well. "Do you mind?" he asked
simply and Kay nodded to Bull to put him down. Manny brushed himself
off and straightened his jacket. "I got past security the same as
everyone else. I signed in as a job applicant and came up to see about
getting an interview. My bow got past because it wasn't with me at the
time... and I could call it through your security because cupid's tend
to be an exemption to alot of magic rules." he turned a glare on Bull
who still held onto his bow and then sighed in irritation. "As to why I
was so pissed off..." he waved angrily at the group surrounding them.
"I came here as a serious job appilicant and I got laughed at and made
fun of."
Chaos bit back a smirk. "So you decided to show them the error of their ways? Teach them not to underestimate people?"
Manny
rolled his shoulders again and shot Nate a disdainful look. "Exactly.
Sorry if I got a bit carried away... I was just going to nail the
bastards who deserved it... but.. It was rather fun..." he admited, a
smirk tugging on the corner of his mouth as he watched the white haired
woman trying to contain her own smirk. He recognized her as the one
he'd hit by accident when he'd been aiming for silver hair... he
wondered vaguely why she wasn't as pissed off at him as the others
were...
Kay snorted softly, her eyes dancing. "You could've just
filed a complaint." she suggested and lost her control of the smirk. It
danced over her face as she laughed softly. "Damn ...." she said softly
a she leaned over the desk and grabbed the phone. "Yeah... do me a
favor.. send a copy of all security video for the past..." she looked
at the ceiling for a moment, then back at Manny, one eyebrow raised
questionly. "Ten minutes? Fifteen?" Manny shrugged softly. "The past
fifteen minutes... send it to my computer and encrypt it please.
Destroy all other copies. Yes. Thank you." she said and hung up, her
eyes still dancing as she let her gaze roam over furiously blushing
faces. "Oh.. I am SO going to enjoy watching those..." she said softly.
There
was some soft grumbling behind her which she ignored as she turned her
attention back to Manny. "Well.. that takes care of the why and the
how... still waiting on the who."
"Manfred Preston Freemont, at your service." he said grandly, even tossing in a courtly bow.
Chaos
smiled and stepped forward, offering her hand. "Pleasure to meet you,
Mr. Freemont. I'm Clarice LaHey, but most know me as Lady Chaos. So...
are you still interested in that job? I may have a few openings.. but
you'd have to be willing to relocate..." she said. "Shall we step into
my office and discuss it further?"
Manny eyed her, a grin slowly
spreading as he shook her hand. "Yeah .. sounds good." he said and
started to follow her. He stopped and shot a glare at Bull. "Umm. may
I?" he asked and Bull looked to Kay curiously.
She laughed
softly. "Give the man his bow, Bull. I don't think he'll be using it
anymore today." she said and continued on past the others to the hall.
Manny
snatched his bow as Bull held it out to him and hurried after Chaos. He
didn't think her people would try anything now that she'd made him
welcome... but.. well... they didn't look all that happy at the
moment.. and why take a chance...?
